JJ Redick said that after watching the film, the conclusion was the Lakers just “stopped playing” in the third quarter against Denver. He said they talked about it this morning and believes it will be an “aberration” and not something that will happen again.

  1. That’s not very reassuring lol

This team has kicked your ass 3 years straight and you can’t stay motivated to play 48 minutes?

  2. That’s not true. Our defensive gameplay against the Nuggets was stupid from the beginning. Switching everything was absolutely stupid. Jokic had a mismatch every time. Like cmon brother!

  3. I’d have more faith in the aberration angle if Denver hadn’t been sonning us for what feels like an eternity.

  4. Talk is nothing. We shall see after the all-star break where we play them once in Feb and twice mid March.

  5. The body language in that third quarter was terrible – it seemed like they stopped caring after nuggets started 8-0

  6. He’s 100% right on these dudes just stop playing. It happens a lot. This is where I brought up bad leadership on the team. Both ad and Lebron just allow the team to stop playing, both start looking disengaged. It’s like they don’t care and just waiting for the game to be over so they can go home. The rest of the team follows, these mofos don’t take the game serious every night.

We need an overhaul of the roster, this team can’t compete, and bad habits are ingrained in these guys. We have a loser mentality problem

  7. Not sure about the latter half but the first half of the statement was true. Some mind boggling plays being made in the entire course of that game but it really did look like the Lakers just gave up in the second half.

  8. We were dribbling into zone D and then playing no defense. It was baffling. Play D and shoot threes to break the zone. It’s not rocket science. I know we’re not the best 3pt team but either take them or give up. We obviously gave up.

  9. this happens when you don’t have guys on the roster who give their heart out every night on defense and run the floor. vando was our guy that wcf run and before that was caruso. please find us help rob

  10. That’s such a lazy take. They didn’t just ‘stop playing’—something specific caused certain players to lose their aggression. The real answer lies in identifying that trigger.

  11. I don’t think it’s an aberration. It feels like that was every single game last season too.

There is a reason LeBron is known for his crazy 4th shenanigans. Because they often get to the 4th in bad shape and he has to rev up.

Is it a matter of conditioning, do they just get too gassed? Is it because the bench is lacking the big guys don’t get the rest they need? Is it mental? I feel like AR and DLo often get in their heads when they miss a few shots in a row and then it’s a bit contagious.

In any event….point being, this seems to be a pattern….

  12. I feel like I made this exact argument after that loss and was down voted by people who blame pelinka after every loss. It was fairly obvious, we just shut down after the first half.

But I would have to disagree with the sentiment it’s an aberration, although the second half against the nuggets was the most egregious example of the team shutting down it is most definitely not a one off thing. It’s a pattern, because you can attribute this phenomenon of a mentality switch to most of our losses. He has to figure out the trigger and find a way to stop the team from deteriorating during games.
