[Nick Barden] Auston Matthews says he’d like “maybe one or two [practices] to really get my legs and lungs back under me,” before getting into a game. On if he’ll play against Florida tomorrow: “We’ll see… But we’ll just kind of see how I respond today and see what happens tomorrow.”

  1. Mark Masters: [Matthews on return to practice: “I felt really good, but might need maybe one or two to really get my legs & lungs back under me”. Berube: “He looked fine & he felt fine, but not having a lot of practice time, it’s a little concerning”. Sounds like Auston may miss another game](https://x.com/markhmasters/status/1861463494270374022?s=46)

Last sentence is Masters inference regarding the situation I guess. Guess we’ll see tomorrow

  2. Alright. As much as I’d love to have Matthews in against Florida, it’s best he’s not rushing himself to get back in.

Marner, Nylander and Tavares are cooking right now. The injection of our youth has given the team some energy.

  3. Keep him out against the dirty Panthers and bring him back against Tampa on the weekend.

If we can get out of this Florida trip with 1 win that’s fine.

  4. That’s alright let’s not risk him getting injured against Florida

If anything we don’t have to play Matthews every night just enough that he stays in practice and is 100% come playoffs

  5. All super completely normal for a day-to-day injury…

But I agree, don’t play him against the panthers.

  6. Although we aren’t struggling to win games without AM I dont know how comfortable I am going into a game vs Florida with so many AHL guys. If it were me, I’d put AM in the game on the 2nd line with the Nylander bros. AM gets sheltered minutes with speedy wingers and we let JT/Marner keep buzzing.
