[Kadlick] AVP on Drake Maye: “The turnovers, they have to stop. No excuses there – rookie or 10 year vet”

  1. Hot take but I don’t hate this quote. Maye’s turnovers certainly aren’t the problem with this team but I like AVP trying to hold him accountable here, the team could use more of it.

  2. I mean Maye is a tough kid and don’t have a problem with holding him accountable, as I’m sure Maye thinks the same himself. At the same time, he’s being forced to play hero ball every week behind a 3rd string caliber line getting teed off on in obvious passing downs lol.

  3. Yeah I agree. I also think the offense around him is trash and as the best player on that side of the ball he’s trying to do things he shouldn’t need to do.

  4. He’s playing hero ball all game which is the only reason we’re in them to begin with. The turnovers will go down as the team improves, he’s gotta hold the ball better when scrambling though. Maye isn’t free from blame but I wouldn’t worry about his turnovers all that much either

  5. Kraft should be saying that to Eliot Wolf: “Hey you schmuck, the turnovers have got to stop. Start signing, trading, and drafting better players so we don’t have a high turnover of players on the OLine. What? No, I’m not gonna let you burn more cash, figure it out or you’re in my next docuseries, pal!”

  6. Get him some fucking NFL talent around him then. Stop making his blindside be protected by Veterinarian Lowe and his top pass catcher be Boutte

  7. Yes the team is bad but there have been plenty of Mayes turnover that he just misses or throws it right to the other team

  8. He makes some bad decisions at times but I appreciate that he’s not afraid to move the ball down field and bounces back quickly from turnovers.

  9. Hot take. If the offense executed Maye wouldn’t feel obligated to play hero ball to try and win.
No one else is stepping up.

  10. Maye also had a horrible oline in college. Just as bad as he has now. He actually has never played with a good oline.

I would expect the 2nd youngest QB in the league, playing with a horrible oline and crappy weapons to have turnovers. I am OK with 1 to 2 per game, given the circumstances. Man, the expectations on rookie QBs now is insane.

  11. Drake has looked great at times and given us an incredible spark, but I’m sure he would be the first to admit some of his downfield attempts, often at key moments, have been ill advised and badly thrown.

The good news is he’s still a rookie and learning. These games mean nothing and ultimately losing is helping us to get better draft position. If he continues to develop, nobody will remember these early struggles down the line.

  12. And he is right. Maye has been great so far, but our primary goal should be to develop him. Just because he is the best part of a terrible team doesn’t mean he shouldn’t still be critiqued.

  13. What a loser response.
Maye doing wonders with the worst oline in the league and no top tier receiver and this loser says this.

  14. Seems like a perfectly reasonable thing to say, can’t wait for everyone to go bananas over it.
