Talking it out: What the heck are the Angels up to?

  1. Maybe I’m high on a mix of copium/hopium, but this article seems overly pessimistic. With a track record like the Angels have, realistic expectations are a necessity, but I also don’t think there’s anything wrong with liking the moves being made.

If they call it day after the current signings and make no other efforts, then I can see this article being more applicable, but I’m going to remain cautiously optimistic until then.

  2. Signing kikuchi would’ve been a very good move two years ago when we were competing.

Now it’ll most likely be wasted on a team that is very very far from being competitive.

  3. I love when people who aren’t fans of the team try to pretend to talk intelligently about our team.

Talking about what the Angels should do is pointless as long as Arte is running the team. He isn’t a tear-everything-down-and-sell-it-off-for-parts kind of guy. Arte doesn’t want the team to tank. He wants the team to be at least semi-competitive. It’s true that it isn’t the best approach to improving, but Arte either doesn’t understand that or doesn’t care. The only way we are going to compete reasonably soon is either a) Arte sells the team, or b) we get really lucky. Neither seems to be imminent on the horizon.

  4. > Why are the Angels the aggressors? They’re coming off a 99-loss season. They roster aging, injury-prone players like Mike Trout and Anthony Rendon. Their farm system remains poor. Shouldn’t they be focused on rebuilding, on overhauling their organization?

Hammer meet fucking nail. No matter how many times I repeat this shit, fans scream we’re getting better!!!!

lol no we’re not. We’ll still be under .500 next season. I guarantee it.

  5. Whichever front line pitcher they sign, backload the contract to get heavy in 2027 when Rendon comes off the books. It’s not a deferral like the Dodgers have been doing, just higher salary after the first 2 years. Burnes, Fried, Flaherty. Honestly, I’d sign Bauer though, give him a contract loaded with performance bonuses so if you need to cut him loose for something, you won’t get banged. I’d also go in on Bueller.
