[Passan] Right-hander Frankie Montas and the New York Mets are in agreement on a two-year, $34 million contract, pending physical, sources tell ESPN. Montas, 31, threw 150.2 innings with a 4.84 ERA with Cincinnati and Milwaukee last year. He’s the first piece in the Mets’ new rotation.

Holy shit Mets got the *one* guy they’ve wanted all offseason!!!!
Players can sign… outside of LA?
Yankee to Met pipeline is still chugging along
More important than Soto
I was going to say that’s a lot, but, $17M for an average starter really isn’t surprising
Christ really? He’s not good and 17 mil a year?
If sterns likes it, I like it.
That seems like a lot for him?
The pitching results were far from ideal, but he also did a lot to help our young pitchers so I don’t hate his tenure here at all.
Dodgers not giving walker Buehler the qualifying offer gets stupider by the day lmao you telling me you wouldn’t give him 21.05 million for a year
This is the same “alright that’s cool I guess” feeling I had when we signed Manaea last year. Hopefully it works out the same way.
I can’t say I like this deal, but I didn’t like the Severino deal last season so what do I know
Wow that is a lot of money. I really like the guy and he still has some left in the tank, but $10-12 mil/year would’ve been my guess
Stearns keeps getting former brewers
Maybe Hefner can do something with him? Not a huge fan. Prob 5th /6th end starter for us.
I thought we had a chance to get him since he’s familiar with the organization but 17m/year? I guess he still has a lot of potential but he hasn’t looked good in a while
That’s a lot of money for mediocre starting pitcher. Insane that a random starter makes more than the highest paid NHL player rn
I would laugh and say lol Mets but after Manea owned us in the playoffs after being his daddy for years idk anymore
Oh max fried is definitely gone
I hate this signing, like a lot. It feels like a massive overpay for guy with a nearly 5 era last year.
Typical stearns move
Yeah honestly I’m not a fan of this
F5ING AT 11PM ON DECEMBER FIRST PAYS OFF
This is exactly how I felt after Stearns signed Manaea and Severino last year, so I’m just going to trust that he knows more than we do and let the man cook.
“I can fix him.” – David Stearns
*He’s the first piece in the Mets’ new rotation.*
That’s one way to phrase it
I trust stearns. They must see something they can fix/ improve
CBass, Manaea, Blackburn, and now Montas. Put your money on Luzardo for the 2026 Mets rotation
I recall him not handling the pressure very well during his time in New York. Maybe the Mets fans will be nicer to him.
Damn at this rate, we may actually be able to offload walker onto some poor team
17 mil for a player with a 5 era
Lmao how in the hell is this dude getting $17 million/year?!? WOW Mets
Sevy made more sense than this
Man, Wacha feels like a bargin now
Fucking Mets ruining the sport! Terrible for baseball to sign free agents.
How much will it be deffered?
