David Jiricek traded to Minnesota Wild – were the Flyers interested? | PHLY Flyers Podcast
After weeks of speculation, the Minnesota Wild traded defenseman and 2022 6th overall pick, David Jiricek, and a 2025 5th round pick to the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for defenseman Daemon Hunt, a 2025 1st round pick, a 3rd round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft, a 2026 4th round pick, and 2027 2nd round pick according to NHL.com.
Charlie and Bill discuss this news before the Flyers matchup versus the St Louis Blues, and if the Flyers were in on a potential trade for Jiricek.

Glad the flyers did not give up that much for Jiricek
We can let Bill`s disappointment speak for itself.
Stop valuing prospects on where they were drafted. It’s over 2 years later and he hasn’t shown much and can’t crack a lineup on a bad roster. So many people just want trades for the sake of trades. Bill calling this an opportunity to get a star player is insane.
Spurgeon’s contract runs out in two years. He is showing wear on the tires with injuries. Added a big right handed D for the future. Wild is building for 1-2 years out – cap hell ends this summer. Jiricek’s contract is 918,000 for two years – it all makes cents. $$$.

My 2 cents. The defense is a lot closer to being at the caliber it needs to be at for a contender than the offense. I feel they are really only missing 1-2 pieces on that front and I think bonk will eventually fill that hole if this was for a center or winger I would absolutely be upset but the reality is Minnesota gave up quite a lot of draft capital for a player that has struggled to breach the lineup on a bad team Cbj isn’t going to take risto in a deal like that because they are in a similar spot to us. The flyers have 6 picks in the first 2 rounds and hopefully we can flip risto for another one and I’m not one to go off of hunches but with 4 first round picks and 3 2nd round picks I almost guarantee you we are not making all of those picks and 1 or 2 of them will be traded

I wonder if Emil Andrea or Drysdale were the players the Flyers were not willing to trade. Or Bonk + 1 round picks. If that the case it was a good call…. at this point 😊
If they would take drysdale I’d give it up but in division no way that’s the case they wanted bonk, flyers 1st and a 2nd and 4th round pick. But to get honest if they didn’t want edm or avs im out! They have a discount to the west at a cheaper price.
