Season Over for the Saints? | James Skrmetta Reacts to Saints 21-14 Loss to Rams | Full Breakdown
The New Orleans Saints’ two-game winning streak ended in a tough 21-14 loss to the Los Angeles Rams at the Caesars Superdome. In this video, James Skrmetta breaks down what went wrong for the Saints, from missed opportunities in the red zone to injuries that piled up during the game.
Derek Carr and the Saints offense struggled to capitalize on a dominant first half, settling for two Blake Grupe field goals while the Rams rallied behind Matthew Stafford and Kyren Williams. Stafford passed for two second-half touchdowns, while Williams rushed for 104 yards, including a key touchdown that shifted momentum.
The Saints lost key players like Taysom Hill, Nick Saldiveri, and Tyrann Mathieu to injuries, further complicating an already challenging season. Now at 4-8, interim head coach Darren Rizzi faces a tough road ahead as the Saints prepare to take on the New York Giants in Week 14.

Rams made the necessary adjustments. They are a well coached team. Our margin for error is zero if we want to talk playoffs. Derek Carr looks great against bad teams , and he still has yet to win that big game here. He needs a perfect setting. It doesnāt exist in the nfl.
Before the video- Grupe scored our only points in the first three quarters. Our O was garbage today tbh.
Now on with the video
Saints fans are dumb. I love my saints but Iām ashamed to be a fan with this fanbase. All were saying tank the season when DA was still here, after 2 lucky wins against bad teams they saying ātanking is for losersā. Now they gonna twist it around and say tank again since the season is over
NO! the season is not over and Derek Carr is going to finally be a good QB all of a sudden and lead the Saints to the Super Bowls. š
I guess we are seeing the down side of a 'soft rebuild/denial' approach the Saints have taken post-Brees and Payton. There is so much instability that the new coaches and players we implement are dragged into a losing energy vortex. It's hard to say if Kubiak is good, if Rattler is bad, if Rizzi deserves a shot, if we should take a qb… We are a huge mess. Still love the community. All that we know for sure is, Carr could end world hunger with the money he makes.
Derek Carr is a great QB now. Remember, he will be a good QB when other people play better.
The Rams absolutely dominated us in the trenches on both sides. Almost every single play I watched our D-line get pushed back and flatlined.
I think one important takeaway from this game is how Darren Rizzi responded during the game and in the post-game press conference. He seemed infinitely more aware of the specifics and details that were hurting us. It's not like we're rocking the most generationally talented roster in the league. I think he outcoached McVay in the first half and kept their offense off the field which should be credited to him at least a little.
Line play line play line play
After the video- d was perfect in first half, a sieve after the break.
KKs seat should be getting hot, that O was trash. What was the TOP in first half? 25:5?
This Kermit kid in the comments š¤£š¤£š¤£
Excessive.
The whole team is trash
The players should have put up more points.
I wouldnāt buy tickets to a saints game for the remainder of this season. You just canāt reward bad behavior. So we (N.O.) stinks and the owners, etc. still get to see new money coming in, nah
The Taysom chant and standing ovation was electric š„¹. Btw I did my part and ate my dome dogs ā¹ļø
It was over 5 weeks ago š¤£
It isnāt over yet but kicker needs to practice big time
Whenever you dominate first half and its 6 to 0 I knew the second half would flip that's exactly what happened
its joever face of the franchise
Dennis Allen already dug the hole and its a BIG ask to climb out. š¤¦š
Iām not even mad bc itās clear that even if we were gifted a playoff spot we would get eaten alive by any playoff team. Just wait for that Packers game

I think something the stats donāt show is how terrified Carr gets when he gets any pressure. He immediately bails out the pocket and throws the ball away. A lot of the time heās bailing from a decent pocket he couldāve stepped into. The elite QBs create in those situations. The commentators mentioned a few times that Carr missed some open players but he was too busy running from any hint of pressure. I wanted for Carr to prove the doubters wrong but he is exactly what they say he is. He is heavily limiting the potential of this offense and weāre likely gonna lose Kubiak because of him.
According to some fans, the Saints are 4-0 and Carr is 0-8. š All jokes aside. It ain't over until they are mathematically eliminated. With 5 games left and 2 games behind, they can still get the division lead and makes the playoffs if they win out. They will need some help but it could happen. It's pretty obvious for me to say this but, every game counts until it doesn't.
It's all over but the crying. This season is over! 2 of our starters got carted off the field, including Taysum Hill. That's all you need to know, that sums up the Saints season.
When the Saints went into halftime 6-0, I knew we were going to lose this game.
That AK TD that was called back wouldāve pushed momentum if it wasnāt called back
Klint keeps just reverting to the run have to get mvs more touches it would help both sides of the offense defense did just as good as the rams defense
We need a QB change next year i cant deal with another year of derek carr…. i understand we had unfortunate major injuries at key spots, but carr is still ass im just tired of it.
On point, Sir. Carr is not my fave but again his play wasn't the issue. FYI, AK dropped two balls in the hands. Big problem is defense. Cannot stop the run or consistently rush the QB. Serious retool on defense for next year. Bresee is an excellent rusher but blown off the line on runs. Let Young walk. We're a 4-8 team, but love our Saints! Who Dat!
This beats getting blown out by 30 after a bye week circa Dennis Allen's tenure.
Hope we get mason Graham in the draft. We have to be better on the d-line.
Yea, it was a boring game. I also don't understand why they didn't have DC throw it to MVS more?
Saints isn't a playoff team, it's bad football team. If they are lucky they might win 2 more games that's it. It's all about the future!
My take on the game:
– the TV crew kept harping on the Saints game plan called for basically taking the air out of the ball and playing "efficient" football…to that end, once the Rams sped up the pace in the 2nd half, the Saints probably shouldn't have stuck to their 3 yards and a cloud of dust mentality.
– the first half was just a carbon copy of the Philly game…everything was kinda working until Saquon got loose, then the wheels fell off of the defense…all of a sudden, the Rams receivers started making plays downfield and the Saints couldn't stop the run to save their lives.
– the hit on Taysom was dirty, period! The DB who hit him went low and hit him directly at the knees…Trevor Penning got jobbed on that block below the waist call, but that's the status quo for us against the Rams- the refs seem to routinely miss calls against the Rams but are nitpicky to a fault against us!
– Derek Carr is afraid of getting hit…all it takes is the tiniest hint of pressure and he's bailing out, often right into the direction of the pressure, and winging the ball anywhere he can deposit it! As it's been stated before by many, he's very efficient but his stats are mostly empty because he too often misses easy throws because he's avoiding pressure prematurely.
– Alonte Taylor is good, but I'm beginning to see that he's not the #1 everyone paints him as…he always starts games strong but gets sloppy down the line…his tackling technique is not good. Nakua made one move on that catch in the 3rd quarter and what should've been a 3 and out drive turned into a 19 yard gain and eventually their 1st TD. Ditto for Honey Badger…he's one of my fave players on the team, but dude's best tackling years are far beyond him!!
All in all, in this sad division, the season isn't quite over, but now that Taysom is out for the rest of the year, our opponents are going to come gunning for AK41 and Valdez-Scantling since they are literally the last potent offensive pieces left…Kubiak is going to have to get seriously creative these last 5 games…otherwise, it's going to be a painful watch the rest of the way!!
Derek Carr looked like a straight Rookie on that last play! And that might be giving him to much credit because the real Rookies are putting him to shame SMH
The second drive in the first half was the one that told me we were going to struggle. We got it close, then just had like 2-3 penalties in a row then missed the field goal. Obviously the final drive stalling was just another example of not being able to punch it in. Ultimately the injuries I think are making it very difficult to finish off these drives.
I think the playoffs have been a distant dream for a while now, even more distant now. I'm not a 'tank the season' guy, lets hope we can notch a couple more wins by end of the season.
Carr sucks defense sucks
Carr is not the guy. He needs to be the next guy out of the organization. Itās clear we cannot win meaningful games with him at qb. Just doesnāt have what it takes to push a team over the top
we need to pick up fields and establish a run first offense with taysom and ak41
it's been over James.
