  1. This makes a ton of sense for both teams. Minnesota has a pipeline of left shot defensemen in the pipeline, but not right shot. They also need a "heavy" defenseman. Jiricek checks both of those boxes. The Wild also have a history of being able to teach skating, which is the biggest issue for Jiricek. There is huge upside, with little downside, especially for the Wild, who have a ton of draft picks still. For the Blue Jackets, they get some capital for building blocks, and a potential six defenseman in Hunt. Honestly, this could be great for both teams, or it could be "meh." So, from that point of view, it's a wash at worst.

  2. This trade isn't about this year. It's about the future. The Wild's 1st round pick this year is going to be in the 20s. Draft picks are just lottery tickets, might as well trade for the guy they want.

  3. MN is securing the D core for the future. Brodin and Spurgeon have a couple of good years of mentorship for these young guys. Keeping the strong defensive culture going. I am stoked with Jiricek coming to MN. We also need some size.
