Pause on this title
If you know that you're team is not making the playoffs and you have Chapman that you're probably going to lose as a free agent, why didn't you trade him at the deadline?

Our time with Skenes is a limited window, please make the most of it–bring in some quality hitters to consistently score more runs!
If I were Skenes at this point, I think I would say something to ownership along these lines.
Hey, I want to be here and help this team win a championship but if you are going to do nothing to do that on your part, I’m out of here at the earliest opportunity because I want to win.
Wonder what the reaction would be?
Hearing Sid is almost 40 really makes me feel old. 😂. Thanks DK
This front office, field manager, and coaches had FIVE years to win. They didn't have one winning season during that time.
Nutting and Cherington can act receptive when they talk to Skenes– "acting" receptive is very easy to do. If they were receptive to the ideas of Keller, Reynolds, and Hayes as was reported, that's all we need to know regarding the implementation of any new ideas from the players. As an aside, Keller in particular seemed very unhappy by the end of last season during his postgame interviews, and his struggles late in the season weren't an accident in my view. Hayes also looked incredibly out of sorts for most of the 2024 season.
To pretend they "want to win" when they talk to Skenes– that's where ownership and management could find themselves in trouble going forward. Winning on a consistent basis requires very hard work, an incredible level of motivation, considerable intelligence, as well as genuine talent– all of the qualities that Skenes possesses, but that current Pirates management absolutely lacks.
Skenes probably has a BS detector that's much more sensitive than we can even imagine. He's also appears too smart to "pop off" or attempt to expose the flaws of this franchise at this point in time. He can just wait and see how much the so-called "leaders" of this organization are really committed to winning in 2025 and beyond.
Skenes is everything Pirates ownership and management are NOT, and therein lies his power. He visibly uses every ounce of his energy to prepare for and win each and every game– and as a generational talent all eyes will continue to be on him. If ownership and management can’t or won't match his competitive energy, it won't take too long for the wheels to gradually start coming off. Skenes has already become an excellent steward of this team, which may mean he's giving Pirates ownership and management the benefit of the doubt to see if they finally make a concerted effort to improve themselves and their collective attitude– or they don't. Skenes doesn't need to expose those who are so inept that they can easily reveal their ineptitude on their own, as they've already been doing. This is a good stewardship versus bad stewardship scenario (in my opinion).
No matter how it unfolds, the fact that Skenes has quickly embraced the city of Pittsburgh is a fantastic thing. His continued excellence during a full season may quickly expose the stark inadequacies of this franchise in 2025 in a way that could result in some unexpected changes.
My sense is that the Pirate players have already been looking to Skenes for the leadership that's been sorely lacking in this organization for years. That's also an incredibly good thing.
We need to start listening to offers for Skenes, a few good prospects could kickstart this rebuild.
ayo wtf
Thank you DK. Whoever they bring in they should make sure they can hit. They should be able to grab a player on the fly when needed, that can hit. Talk is better when there is results. Paul Skenes has that. Good one DK
Nutting wants to win?😆Nutting okayed Cherington getting someone named Trey Cabbage recently. Dumpster diving ala The Pirates at their finest.🤣
LOL THIS TITLE
If Skenes had any balls, he would order his agent to put Nutting on notice — make a full commitment to win games or get me the out of this spithole ASAP if not earlier.
