[Passan] Left-handed reliever Aroldis Chapman and the Boston Red Sox are in agreement on a one-year, $10.75 million contract, pending physical, sources tell ESPN. Boston sought left-handed help for its bullpen and lands the 36-year-old Chapman. @ChrisCotillo said deal was progressing.

  1. Imagine being Cotillo and your source is all excited to leak that progress is being made, you throw it up on social media, and not 15 minutes later Passan scoops you with the deal.

  2. I mean, I hope he does poorly, but there’s a reason why teams keep giving him money and playing time. He’s still pretty good and also weirdly healthy for a guy who throws 100+.

And his antics are more palatable if your team is winning and/or you only sign him for a year at a time.

  3. I’m glad the Pirates didn’t bring him back. Not that I’m confident they’ll use the money on anyone better, but I just felt that the Chapman signing was odd and they could’ve signed two decent relievers for that

  4. Folks, it makes sense! We needed relief pitching! And so I wholeheartedly say…….. nah, fuck this guy.

  5. The best thing about Chapman is how he’ll occasionally load the bases then strikeout the next 3 batters

Or he’ll just keep walking everyone

Regardless, I enjoyed his time and Pittsburgh and would’ve liked him back. His velo is still there, he hit 103 multiple times this year

  6. Man, I could *never* root for a guy like Chapman.

-~~Boston fans a few seasons ago~~ Me right now

  7. This would be awesome if it were ten years ago and we didn’t know he beat his girlfriend yet

  8. Aroldis Chapman and Liam Hendriks on the same team is literally the devil on one shoulder and Angel on the other. Notorious good guy Liam who refuses to play for a team that doesn’t have a pride night and notorious ass hole Aroldis Chapman who beats women.
