Dolphins In Depth: Dolphins reinforcements are on the way

The Miami Dolphins’ trenches are leaking as the team’s style of play becomes more physical in December, if Mike McDaniel’s team doesn’t patch up the offensive and defensive line, their faint playoff hopes might evaporate.

  1. Other than locked on, this is the only dolphins related pod I watch. Barry and Omar really really want the dolphins to win. You can feel it in their discussions. Most other local coverage is trash (Poupart and Perkins)

  2. Barry
    Love your passion today
    But ignore injury question
Ask coach about jumbo package and run Wilson three times please for the love of God
    No more injuries questions
    No more softballs
Paul at left side on jumbo and put Julian too there and run behind them

  3. Lost the locker-room? Dolphins a soft team issue. One player gave a very blunt response for this preception. “It starts with coach. He was shivering the entire game. In the locker room he was standing next to a heater. This is supposed to be our leader?" Poor leadership image amplifys team's lost faith in Mike McDaniel? NFL is a dog-eat-dog environment, not a good look Mike.

  4. What for? Playoff run is done. All they’ll do is win a few more meaningless games and screw up our draft position. Time to win was at the beginning and middle of season, not now.

  5. It’s an easy thing to explain. You have no interior presence on the offensive line. They allow easy pressure and get pushed back at all times. Till it gets stout, aka investment, it will always be a problem.

  6. The overloaded line doesn’t happen because our head coach is not committed to running the football. Period. He wants to throw the ball every down and has to force himself to call run plays. Tuff teams run the ball. Especially in short yardage. So if you’re trying to change the narrative then why wouldn’t you run the ball more often? SMH

  7. Lifelong Dolphan here, nearly 50 years. That said …

You guys are smoking the finest Floridian meth if you think we have a shot at winning out and making the playoffs. At best, we will go 2-3 down the stretch, although with what I've seen from this team, I expect us to go 1-4 – winning next week against the Jets and going 0-4 to finish out – and finish a dismal 6-11, most likely drafting between 8 and 14 in the draft. And we had better make the most of those 1st-3rd round draft picks, e.g. OL, DL, and LB.

Letting Christian Wilkins go was absolute stupidity. Letting Raekwon McMillan go a few years back was also idiotic. Defensively, we have no interior line presense, ZERO pass rush (I'm sorry but Jaelen Phillps and Chop Robinson are busts, although Robinson is better against the run than Phillips is), and we cannot cover ANY RB or TE in the league – see the past 3 weeks on how the opposing RB's and especially, particularly TE's, have absolutely killed us in the passing game. Additionally, the LB's consistently miss tackles (mostly arm tackle attempts, makes me sick as a former LB/DE) and couldn't cover the broad side of a barn, slow and incompetent against the pass.

So yes, we need interior OL but we can find that in Free Agency. We need 2 Guards and some depth pieces, because our current depth is absolutely atrocious. What I would do is get 1 Guard and focus on improving the run blocking with Eichenburg (I think he can turn out to be a solid player at RG) and a more dependable RT, because every season Austin Jackson just cannot stay healthy and on the field. I agree with Omar, that we need to play Paul and LT and let him develop. Have him work closely with Armstead so he can absorb as much of that knowledge as he can.

If I can pile on, we also need help at the corner spot, because Ramsey has lost it and gets beat on the constant every week, Storm Duck is probably better in the Nickel/Dime position, but I think Kohou is the one solid corner we have. So getting a veteran on the outside, move Ramsey to the Strong Safety position, let Holland play over the top (Ramsey is more physical and Holland is better with coverage, not to mention Ramsey could cover those damned TE's better) and let Maye and Poyer go, both are abysmal and Brooks is also a bust. Draft some depth on the backend, 4th-6th rounds and maybe get another veteran corner for depth in FA.

Too many damn holes to fill but we need to start addressing the things we have been failing to address the past 10-15 years. As a lifelong Dolphan, its making me ill every year how we seem to be the only team on the constant, not to figure this crap out while every other team is seeing it and fixing it.

Deep Sigh … "There's always next year." Go Fins.
