I love these stills, mostly because you really get to see how much of an edge they are on.
The amulet has bigger plans for Tavares.
Nice, JT is always better after a bit of rest anyways.
Binnington lmaoooo
Sad for Mo.
Rielly is easily replicated by someone who is a better defenceman. It would have been cool but he’s not a prototypical choice.
Good. They get a vacation and rest for the second half of the year.
JT is good enough and so is Rielly. Tanev is a defensive beast. But I want to see their A game in the playoffs not at this event.
That sucks if true, JT deserves to be there
Jt, Reilly, Tanev, Nylander should’ve been there(idk if he is considered Swedish or Canadian because he was born in Calgary, also he is considered a dual citizen)
Which tournament is this?
JT and Rielly should have been considered atleast.
Canada must be deep.
I’m cool with all the Leafs getting a rest. This tournament means nothing to me.
Give me Tavares on two weeks rest and a fire under his ass for the last half.
I’m kind of relieved. I wish the tournament was in September like 2016, it’s hard to get excited for a random tournament in February because I’m so nervous about injuries that would hurt a playoff run.
no to JTs very obvious superpowers?

That’s too bad imagine if Tavares was captain
It would be Former Leafs Captain vs Current Leafs Captain when they face team USA
And then the rest of Canada would have a meltdown over toronto sucking up all the attention
JT definitely had a case to make it with how he’s rebounded after a slow start, but a rested JT with how he’s playing could make him a monster in the second half. I don’t think Mo deserves to go if I’m honest, his defensive play can be shocking and I’m a fan of his lol
the fewer leafs involved the better…may be an unpopular opinion but i’d rather we not risk injury for something i care about like the leafs as opposed to this watered down attempt at an olympics
i feel like tanev’s gotta be one of our best dmen in the country
steven lorentz robbed
Uhh no shit ??
I hope he does. He’s playing excellent hockey. Go Mitch go.
I really don’t mind Tavares resting. But I also really don’t get how he’s not included. Here’s my essay:
He’s in the same age range is Marchand, Stone, Reinhart, Bennet. I don’t think of those guys as particularly fast or better skaters than John.
He is a tried and true Canadian performer and just shy of being a PPG player with over 1000 games. The listed players with similar stat lines are all future HoFers. Marchand is very comparable with fewer points, fewer games, but is older. I understand he was added before the season though.
That brings me to current season performance. There are 10 listed skaters who are above him on season points. In fantasy terms there are only 4 Canadians above him, and I know it’s fantasy but I think that helps shine a light on his peripherals (SoG, +-, face off dominance).
We are unfortunately just too stacked with centers, and although he can play wing, I see why others like Cirelli and Hagel take those spots.
Lastly, amulets.
Sad for JT as it seems like he REALLY wanted to be there..but happy as a Leafs fan… let him get a few weeks rest leading up to the playoffs. Old man Tanev doesn’t need any extra games either. Wouldn’t mind if Matthews passed the captaincy over to someone else so he can rest whatever has been ailing him the last month before the home stretch.
I’ll watch the tourny when it comes, but I really have no passionate rooting interest. I realize I haven’t liked Intl hockey in a long time, basically it was a lot more fun when the Leafs sucked as it gave us a good team to cheer for (2010, 2014). Now I will just be watching hoping our stars don’t get injured
couldn’t think of a player who represents the canadian way of hockey any less.

Not surprising, but still a little sad for JT and Rielly. Canada too strong (except goalies…).
