[Crosspost] Career yardage and draft capital each team has spent on WRs since 2000

In a lot of ways this chart explains why we’ve never had good WRs who we drafted. We haven’t spent a lot of draft capital on the position and therefore the results are poor.
Of course it would be nice to be the Steelers etc, but is what it is.
The worst part about Eliot Wolf is that he’s from the Packers tree & yet we aren’t getting Packer WR results. Hopefully it changes but Polk & Baker bring virtually unplayable on a team this lacking in talent is not good tbh.
We typically went for veterans because Brady and the EP offense were so demanding. There really isn’t an excuse now.
How are the cowboys and Buccaneers in that lower left corner?
It makes the bevy of second rounders feel less bad, I guess, if we’re only slightly behind the curve instead of way behind it.
You get what you pay for, but also, we’re just much worse at the evaluation part too.
Tet will fix this
I am convinced on either Travis Hunter or Tet. Didn’t want Travis for a while but I’m completely sold now. He is a rare player. His frame isn’t that of an alpha receiver in the NFL but he is so rare, I think he’ll still be dominant.
Bill just preferred veteran WRs and utility guys than to swing for a top WR in the draft. Every year since they drafted Gronk, it was like a revolving door of veteran WRs that would come in and leave.
Every year, Bill added some veteran guy with previous success and typically 1st round pick reclamation projects, to try to squeeze something out of them. If he put half as much effort into drafting WRs, compared to signing them, they probably would have found a guy or 2.
If you don’t count Bourne, considering he was extended this year, it’s the first time in like a decade where the team didn’t bring in a veteran WR and relied on the guys they drafted.
EDIT: I lied, KJ Osborn was brought in, but used so little I forgot he existed for a minute.
Now do this for QBs. Check mate!
I’d love to see this for the last 5 years. Twenty years ago the situation was very different.
Wheres the dude from yesterday sayin Aiyuk wouldve been a waste of $ ??? 😂😂
Right in the terlet.
Why does this teams inability to draft wide receivers keep getting brought up? We were a literal dynasty in that time period
Steelers WR’s are good, but also emotionally immature. Looking at you Antonio Brown and George Pickens
The “spent less” half has won 19 of the last 23 Super Bowls. The “spent less got less” quadrant won 11 of 23. The data suggests that spending draft capital on WRs is inversely proportional to Super Bowl victories.
I’m going to *slightly* defend the Patriots here—
They had Gronk for like, a decade, of this. Look where the Chiefs and Falcons rank (Tony G and Kelce).
There is still a gap, but it’s important to note the Patriots traded a first (Cooks), second (Welker), and a plethora of other picks (Moss, Sanu).
Their best receiver between 2000-2006 (pre-Moss) was also drafted prior to 2000 (Brown).
So while this graph looks like they completely neglected the position for 20 years, I think it’s more like they neglected it for 05-06 and since 2018.
Yeah too bad we weren’t like the Bengals over the last 25 years!
3 out of 25 of the last Superbowl winners are in the “above average spending” category. The other 22 have spent below average.
I think this highlights important point, yeah, we have had shit luck drafting receivers, but we’ve also not put a lot of resources into it. We aren’t that far below the average fit line
Damn. Good thing we won 6 superbowls since then or this would be depressing

Ochocinco, Brandon Lloyd, Amendola, LaFell, KeShawn Martin, Michael Floyd, Dorsett, Cooks, Kenny Britt, Josh Gordon, Antonio Brown, Sanu, Donte Moncrief, Bourne, Agholor, Parker, Jealon Reagor, JuJu.
