Mike, I dig your point vis-à-vis Trout and Rendon. But Trout's value is middling now – it's just hoping there's a contribution and that's if he's on the field. Trout's contract really, really bad for the team. He's the new Miguel Cabrera, whose last seven extension years were devastating to any Tiger resurrection. Like $40m+ per WAR over that time. The consequences of the ludicrous mega long-term deals in MLB. They almost all fail, and do so spectacularly.
Granted that most of the mega long-term deals are still playing out, but which ones have paid off? Will Phillie and Yankee fans think the Harper and Judge deals, respectively, were "worth it" if there's no titles during their terms? If so, why?

Trout has a good chance to still have productive seasons, I'm still ok with the contract
I think both Rendon and Trout’s contracts are untradeable. Trout’s potential doesn’t matter he old and broke down with a lot years left.
