[Feinsand] The Yankees’ final offer to Soto was 16 years and $760 million, per source. That’s a $47.5 million AAV; the Mets offer was for a $51 million AAV.

  1. 3.5 million dollars per year is why he didn’t sign here. all the shit he did with the fans was a complete fucking joke.

    fuck Juan Soto.

  2. Fuck Juan Soto and fuck the Mets I hope they never make the playoffs in his time there

  3. The extra year to spread it out is not nothing …it makes the offers tangibly different.

But if he wanted to be a Yankee, he’d be a Yankee

  4. I’m sorry he didn’t wanna be here. Honestly Soto you made me really dislike you after this

  5. Fuck Soto but over 3.5M I find it hard to believe it was only about the $. There’s gotta be somethin else

  6. Plus apparently it can get up to 800 mil. He simply wanted the most money. It’s fine. But all the other stuff was nonsense

  7. You can’t look at this AAV wise. It’s not like he’s ever signing another contract when this ends.

  8. Dudes just disgustingly greedy, he only ever cared about AAV.

It was obvious he gave two fucks about the Yankees from his comments after the WS

  9. Soto didn’t want to be here. It’s his decision and I’m not mad about it. He’s earned the right to pick where he wants go play and get the bag. Move on and make this team one that Soto regrets not signing with.

  10. it’s official: the only current met that i know of is juan soto

    tough scenes. pray for me.

  11. How can anyone be shocked? It was always the highest bidder – The mets said they were going to be the highest bidder…Soto wanted the most $$ – it didn’t matter where it came from – it was always the most $$

  12. The obsession to get the highest dollar possible was weird, frankly. Once you’re in that stratosphere we’re talking about the difference between the 8th and 9th beach house in Cancun.

Would love to know what the decision is if the offers were perfectly equal, but we don’t live in that world. Cohen wouldnt have stopped

  13. I feel I lost respect for Soto but need to remember this is a business. Oh well, time to pivot (I hope)

  14. *put on tin foil hat and brings finest sorces (trust me bro)*

He didn’t want to be on a team with Aaron Boone

  15. This really really makes me not like Soto as a person. Of course I understand job security & money but idk I’m bias. The Yankees are better 🤷🏻‍♀️

  16. That’s a fucking great offer. Something doesn’t feel right with this. He never wanted to come back.

  17. Everyone thinking having judge as protection was a plus for Soto, but the fact of the matter is when it mattered most, judge was nowhere to be found.

  18. People who actually think “Hal let $3.5M be the difference” need to realize that Cohen was going to keep upping the bid until everyone dropped out. Cohen was always gonna be the high bidder.

The hope was always that if it was close Soto would choose the Yankees. Well it was close and he didn’t choose the Yankees.

  19. I’ll live with this knowledge. Soto was a generational talent, and the Yankees were willing to pay a generational salary and term to keep him.

I never thought Cohen would be outbid, my hope would be the Yankees staying within a reasonable enough range that Soto’s year with the Yankees and experience with the organization would serve as a tiebreaker. Evidently, not the case. So it goes. Not sure what else there even is to say about it, I don’t know what people were expecting here.

  20. I cannot wait for the Mets to be picking people off the street to pitch for them cause I find it really difficult to see how they fill out a roster at this point. Clay Holmes is their number 2-3 starter right now. Enjoy the cash Juan but there is a reason the Mets rallied around Grimace this season.

  21. I really am not that upset. It’s an astronomical amount of money and I really don’t think he was worth going all out own. I think this will work for the Yankees in the long term.

  22. Bright side. He gets paid and stuck in hell for the next 5 years. We won’t have to face him in playoffs

  23. Good. At that price, the team can plug several of its many many holes.
Because there is so much room for improvement, I genuinely think this is a blessing in disguise and the team will be better using the money on 2-3 players.

  24. Imagine leaving the Yankees to play with the little brother shit team over what would be pocket change for him. Fucking idiot

  25. The Yankees offered one more year and basically the same money. I don’t know what else could be done

  26. I don’t get why people here expected Soto to have some sort of loyalty towards the Yankees when he only played here for one season. He is not a Yankee fan, he is a player doing his job. He also has made it known for years he was always going to chase the money.

  27. I don’t wanna hear any Mets fan talking about them like they’re some fucking underdog story again this year while they’re dishing out contracts like this and have one of the highest payrolls.

Fuck Soto. The deal will age like shit. Cano all over again

  28. He cares a lot about his image and his brand. We have a captain here. We have a face of the franchise. It’s not him and it never would be. I’m quite sure that played a part in this regardless of what’s been said—or not said.

He made his decision. There are a LOT of very good baseball players available right now and the Yankees can certainly field a better team next year if they add the correct ones and get the young player progression that will be necessary (Dominguez, Wells, Volpe) to increase their ceiling.

Soto is well within his right to take the money. I just don’t really respect it personally (not that he cares) and will always just look at him as a hired gun—he will opt out in 5 years and chase another circus like this if he can get even more money out of it. It’s just who he is.

He wasn’t the AL MVP because Aaron Judge was. And Aaron Judge is still here. And yeah he needs to perform in October but it’s still Aaron Judge.

Life goes on. We will have a good team in 2025 without Juan Soto. He can enjoy Queens. ✌️

  29. More money than Shohei, who can hit, run, play defense if needed and pitch, lmao. I’m glad we didn’t overpay that much for him honestly. Now we can spend elsewhere.

  30. Guys stop sweating it. He proactively didn’t want to be a Yankee. For whatever reason. He’d never be the man here. Judge is for the next decade. Maybe that’s what he wanted. He’s been basically a hired gun for half his career now almost. He’s always seemed like he was in it for the dollar. The amount he would have given up to be a Yankee was chump change for someone who just scored over 750 million dollars (from the Yankees offer). He would have made that back easily in interest alone. Doesn’t bother me one bit and it shouldn’t you. He didn’t want to play for the Yankees. That simple. It was simply about the most money. And as much as I dislike Hal Steinbrenner if the report is true that he went to what was reported then I find absolutely no fault in him for this. He held up is part of the bargain to us and the Yankees spent the whole year trying to do whatever they could to make him comfortable. Still it wasn’t good enough. Good riddance and good luck. I don’t feel bad one bit. You don’t want me I don’t want you. That simple. He’ll be Mr.Irrelevant note for the majority of the rest of his career. The Mets had a lucky run the second half of last season thanks to mult other teams better than them (Braves, Phillies) who were consumed with injuries. That ain’t happen again next season. The Mets starting rotation is absolute garbage. Their offense around Soto minus Lindor who finally had a season worth HIS obscene contact is mid at best and a Lindor injury away from being a bottom 10 offense in the league. So cry not Yankee fans. He made his bed. There are a number of positions this team needs to fill. That’s a lot of money open to improve this roster. His bat will be missed.

  31. There are times to blame ownership when a player iz not signed. This is clearly NOT one of them. I’m glad we made a very strong offer, but it wasn’t meant to be. Go get some infielders now please!

  32. Reminder: Judge turned down his hometown team that offered him the same contract we did. He also turned down the Padres, who offered him more money than us.

I’m thankful for the season Soto gave us. He created some unforgettable memories. But if you’re leaving because of $5 million, you never really wanted to be here in the first place. And if that’s the case, then good riddance.

  33. Can’t be mad. Yankees made a more than fair offer.

Now we just hope the Mets fail with him. They don’t have pitching.
