  1. Sharks, Avs, and Pens fan here.
This is good for both teams.

The Avs pick up the best goalie that was available.
.911 save percentage with the Sharks.
He might not be a Vezina candidate, but Blackwood is consistent.
He's been one of the big reasons the Sharks are in most games.
The Avs are solid in net, with good forwards and good defense, a cup contender now.

Kovalenko will fit with the other younger Shark forwards.
Georgiev moved to Russia when he was 1 years old, so that gives Askarov someone who shares language/culture.
I think the Sharks downgraded short term, which likely means a better draft pick this year.
But the 2nd round pick is another top prospect.
Georgiev and Askarov will be a good tandem. In the near future Askarov will be the starter.

  2. Locked on Sharks was just talking about trying extend Blackwood. He's played really well for the Sharks and hopefully winds up with a nice contract for next season and beyond. It will be a very tough hit to the Sharks locker room.

  3. I like Blackwood. Sounds like he's been having a good season. I hope he has more consistency than Georgiev. I was really surprised initially but the more I think about it the less surprised I am. I figured the Avs must be looking at goalies and this was the last year of Georgiev's contract. I still remember the Avs/Shark game from last year (i think) where Blackwood almost stole the game for the Sharks. More of that with the Avs please.

  4. Its fine. Yes Blackwood made massive epic saves the other night yet before was hard to sit there and see Sens take 10 shots on him and 3 got past him that you really couldnt blame on the skaters. He doesnt want to be there and maybe leaving was his birthday present. Happy birthday MB! Would have liked to see Givani stay. he was building chemistry with protecting the young guns

  5. History legitimately rhymes.

Kovalenko's father was traded to MTL as part of the package that brought a goalie (Roy) to Colorado.
Now his son gets to (unfortunately) be part of another package that brings a goalie to Colorado.

  6. Colorado needed to do something about the goaltending, and I keep coming back to what I said before last season, Colorado wouldn't win a cup with Georgiev tending the net. So it makes sense. Good luck to all players traded.

  7. As a Devil's fan, I never thought I would see the Blackwood Wedgewood tandem again. The fact that it's Colorado, my 3rd least favorite team kills me.

  8. I can't say I understand this trade for the Sharks at all. Blackwood was the perfect transitional goalie for us. Kept us in games so the kids could confidently experiment and sheltered Asky from the dumpster fire. And for what? A bottom-6 guy to go with our dozens of bottom-6 guys? A 2nd in a couple years that'll likely be closer to a 3rd? Cool, totally worth throwing Asky to the wolves and risking his and the rest of the team's confidence.

  9. Be interesting to look 5 years ahead in the crystal ball and see where teams like the sharks, ducks, and blackhawks wind up. I mean you could add a few other rebuilding teams to that list but I can’t help but feel like some struggling teams will still be struggling.
