For a 37 year old pitcher with an injury history…?
This seems like such a waste for a team that really needed to add some talent.
What a shit contract. Why not bring in JV for this role if we’re chasing elderly pitchers
This is what a successful low risk addition looks like in 2024. If the team doesn’t commit significant dollars to other contracts this offseason, that would be a disservice to the team and fans. That doesn’t change the fact that this is a good signing.
Wtf
I like the incentives. Extra 1 mil at 140 IP and another 1 mil at 150 IP. I know guys can’t control how healthy they are, but if he can last the whole season without significant injury he deserves the extra money.
This is such a fucking joke man. GIVE ME A FUCKING BREAK! THIS FRANCHISE IS NASTY FUCKING WORK!!
Yeah. I hate this way more than Soto and it’s indicative of a broken system more than Soto.
Soto is an MVP front runner. If Alex Cobb doesn’t get hurt and is average, he’ll make 17m.
This should be a buy low option. Him almost making 20 million is a fucking travesty
On its own this signing is fine. If he pitches 150+ innings and is effective then it’s even good. But like the money to Maeda last year, followed by adding nothing, I’m worried this will be another wasted offseason to bring in a real improvement in the lineup. Which will be the 3rd year in a row under Harris we can say the same.
This team cannot be expected to go on another miracle run just to make the playoffs. It needs to be competitive from day 1 as the division is now surprisingly tough and other teams have better building blocks like Witt jr., Ramirez, etc . The tigers won’t have that kind of head start so they absolutely need more hitting depth.
A 1 year 15 million dollar deal is nothing.
Yeah, we all want MORE. But this is a molehill.

12M would have been my ceiling.
Cobb will only be as good as the defense behind him, which currently that IF is very questionable.

Good time to be a pitcher.
