“In addition to having the Dodgers, Padres and Angels on his wish list, Arenado would also be willing to accept a trade to the Phillies, Mets or Red Sox, per a source close to the negotiations.”

  1. That’s one hefty contract (can Cards please eat at least some of it?), but he’s got to be an upgrade over Rendon… right?

  2. Please no. While I would much rather have Arenado than Rendon as our starting 3B, since he is still a somewhat productive player, Cards would need to eat up most of the contract for it to even start to make sense.

  3. People may bash this. But Rendon’s value and hope he can return to form is at 0. I have hope Arenado can return to form. But Cardinals need to eat that contract or get literally nothing in return for him. No in-between

  4. Maybe I’m crazy, but I don’t hate it. If the Cardinals eat most of his contract then we could use him as a platoon at first base and a starting third baseman when Rendon inevitably gets hurt.

If we aren’t on the hook for much of the contract then I could see this being helpful.

  5. Imagine we do a clean swap of Rendon for Arenado. Both teams are still eating a high contract.

  6. He could also teach Moore how to play 3rd at an elite level. Don’t hate it, just needs to make sense
