  1. Who do they think they are, the Yankees?

(Please don’t murder me, it’s a joke, Captain America deserves it)

  2. I rooted for DW so much at times that it probably put me in jeopardy of losing my Braves card. Couldn’t be happier to see him get this honor

  3. It’s about time. Wright was a class act. Wish he would have stood healthy enough to have a full career.

  4. And while they’re at it, they should retire Jorge Lopez’s glove and install a monument of some sort at Citi Field

  5. It really sucks that he couldn’t stay healthy. Would have been an easy HoFer otherwise. Glad this is happening though.

  6. David Wright and Dustin Pedroia will be the biggest “what if” infielders who were HOF caliber in the mid 2000s

  7. David Wright is why I am a Mets fan in the first place. No matter how good (or shitty) the Mets were, he played with nothing but class. So pumped he gets this recognition!

Next is the HOF, right??? (jk, but maybe?)

  8. My most memorable David.Wright memory is the Phillies started a guy, RW Swindle, who threw a sub 60 mph Eupheus pitch. The commentators were like “Yeah, RJ specializes in this rare pitch, we’ll see how it works for him”

He either walked or gave up hits to the first two batters then threw a 58 mph absolute meatball to David Wright. Wright hit it almost out of the fuckin stadium and that was the end of Swindles career

  9. One of the first memories I have as a baseball fan was being really bummed when the Mets traded Ty Wigginton in 2004 and being reassured by my grandpa that he was being replaced by some upstart prospect named David Wright. I was 8 years old at the time, by the time Wright played his last game with the Mets, I was just out of college, and was lucky enough to attend that final game in person. So Wright’s career essentially spanned my entire childhood right up until becoming an adult.

It didn’t end with that perfect story book ending you dream about, but I’ll always be grateful that David Wright was the guy that represented my favorite team through my childhood. Especially as kids, we sometimes put ourselves in tough positions as fans where look up to guys who are human and don’t always do the right thing. Having this guy be the poster on your wall and the name on the back of the jersey your mom bought you was just about as good as you could ask for.

  10. He’s the greatest athlete to ever play any sport in the history of humanity, he’s deserves it
