Join Eric Huysman and Brett Chancey for the Locked On Astros podcast as we discuss the return on the Kyle Tucker trade for the Houston Astros from the Chicago Cubs. This is a change of thinking for the Astros, which is probably weird for most Astros fans. They knew, especially after what Juan Soto signed for, that they would not re-sign him. They made the painful but prudent decision to trade him for Isaac Paredes, Cam Smith, and Hayden Wesneski.

Cubs fan here. Cam Smith may not be one of our top 3 prospects right now, but he easily could have been if we still had him 1 year from now.
He's following an identical path to Matt Shaw. Shaw was also our first round pick the year before, and he also climbed to AA within that same year. At that time he was around our 6th highest prospect just like Cam Smith was now. The following year he played AAA and became our top prospect, around 20th in the entire league.
Overall, I love that both fan bases are loving this trade for the most part. I know that I'm ecstatic.
A outfield with Chas & meyers heck no I like Chas. Jake on the other hand I’m not high on. Also our lineup 90% rightes now.
If Bregman and Tucker are gone same offseason so are a bunch of season ticket holders who could spend their money on a beautifully made rockets team
Long time Cubs fan here. I don't know what Cubs fans you were talking to, but I can tell you right now, the Astros traded an All-Star player for a load of dead weight. Houston got fleeced. Even if Kyle Tucker stays with the Cubs for only one year, the deal was still worth it. Cam Smith is an unknown who's not even close to being in the majors, Paredes' bat looked lazy and slow in Chicago and he never seemed to fit in, and every time Wesneski came into a game he was giving up home runs. I can only imagine how many he's going to give up in that phone booth in Houston. Long story short, the Cubs gave up a load of nothing.
Don't waste the big money on Bregman, sign a decent 1st baseman and outfielder.
Thats a goodbye to Bregman 2?
They got a 3rd baseman in rhe trade🤔
Haven’t watch the video yet but should they sign Anthony Santander
Its too early to see how this works out for the Astros but so far Dana Brown hasn't given me reason for concern.Losing Kyle Tucker does hurt but you need to get something to replenishg the farm system and address 3rd and 1st. Cam Smith gives you a tremendous trad piece if he doesn't end up being the future 3rd baseman. This trade has a good chance of being a big win for the Astros.
Well , all I know is that stros should have gotten rid of Lance 2years ago
Boy I did not want to lose Cam Smith. He was easily our 2nd best prospect, right behind Matt Shaw. Watch how fast he jumps into the top 20 in all of baseball next year. Cam Smith is the PRIZE here. I know Paredes fills a hole and will hit well in your ballpark. But make no doubt, Smith is THE prize of this trade for the Astros.
It's amazing how quickly the Yanks can forgive Bregman's cheating!
This is a good trade in the national league. The cubs Souza and Tucker in their lineup now
Whether you like Tucker or not the decision to trade him is a great one simply because we’re sick and tired of watching these guys walk once their contract is up! We might as well get something in return before they walk! Should have done that before Springer walked, Correa walked, Cole walked, and Bregman walks, if he ends up walking anyway! Just imagine the players and prospects we would have had if we traded those guys a year before their contracts were up! We would have been loaded with talents the last several years!
A Homegrown Kid that Jim Crane Can’t sign Him as An Astro for life..And Prospects are Suspects..Big LOSS FOR ASTROS!!!
Profar is at best over time a 240avg 18 Homer's a year guy,he strikes out every time I watch him hit
That bat is like KJJr.
We still need to sign bregman and slap paredes at first
Life is amazing. Lets go. We appreciate you guys.
Tucker never showed interest to stay with Astros. Not even a passing interest, despite multiple talks of new contract. Glad we got something for him.
Yordan want to play.
So Dana Brown got nothing for Tucker. Brown is going to go down in Houston sports lore as the GM that gave away the Astros dynasty. Bud Adams can now rest in peace as he is no longer the most hated man in Houston sports history.
He was drunk. 32:29
What about Jason Hayward in Tuckers spot? Do we still have him?
14:01 feel like this is an important point to clarify – Cam Smith is 73rd overall prospect, but he was not the Cubs 2nd ranked prospect – he was their 7th ranked prospect (that's how good their system was and still is). Now whether he would have risen to their 2nd best or even best prospect at some point going forward is a different and subjective story because he did have one of the biggest ceilings in their system and came out scorching hot right away last year after being drafted. As for the trade as a whole – fans on both sides should stop worrying about which side came away better or did the "fleecing" – this was a fair trade that makes sense for both sides at this point in time. BOTH franchises got better in different ways based on where they currently sit in their MLB roster compositions, payroll budgets, and prospect cycles.
They did it with hunter pence back in the day to build up are farm
6 best cubs prospect
No we can’t stay par with Chas and Jake they are horrendous!!!
Glad he’s gone! Looking at the bigger picture, he didn’t do squat in the playoffs .. yes during the season he’s good, but they’re no highlights of him during the playoffs!
I’d personally like to see a trade for Luis Robert now that Tucker is in Chicago. Three years of affordable team control for an elite defensive center fielder who has already won a gold glove, a silver slugger, was the rookie of the year runner up and an all star in the rather short amount of time he’s played. He led the league in batting average in 2021, was second in the league in HRs with 38 just one year ago, and stole 23 of 26 bags in 100 games last season. He would be a great fit in that ballpark stacked with Yordan in the order.
Parades is going to be really good in your guys ballpark!
The evil empire strikes again! Way not to give up the rookie cashman.. king tuck will come to the dark side eventually! Oh yea ** world champions.. # chasing 28😊
HAHA. THIS TRADE WAS **IDIOTIC!** DANA BROWN AND JEFF BAGPOORLY PLAYED THEMSELVES.
I'LL BET WE LET BREGS WALK. PAREDES AT 3B. SINGLETON AT 1B. I BET WE SAVE THE CASH AND RE-SIGN TUCK AFTER 2025. LOL.
I wouldnt get too excited about Wisneski.
Hes got an A+ slider, but hes really inconsistent.
He can go out and throw 5 scoreless and look unhittable. Then he goes out and looks like hes throwing batting practice.
Gotta fix that inconsistency
Are we bringing Ben Gamel back ?? He was really fitting in nicely.
This decision by the Astros will age like roadkill.
Yes. I already miss Tucker. For now, the outfield is unsettled. Myers and McCormick are not longterm solutions. Trade F. Valdez and obtain additional prospects.
Excuses
Blockbuster? 🙄
Holy commercials Batman! Haven’t seen so much spam on this channel before
First time I’ve given the guys a thumbs down what’s up with the in video commercials and break away commercials wow
Hold on shipping another commercial
Back to being DisASTROS again! Should have kept TUCKER and played him @ 1st base. Dana Dumb Brown.
I second the motion on Jurickson Profar.
Glad to see a Bearkat in the astros roster this year!!!
As a Mariners fan, you guys are going to be trash this year… You guys seem to think the Mariners aren't very good, but if you guys didn't manipulate the amateur draft window of a few years around the time when you didn't sign Aiken and took two top 5 picks during one of the best drafts in the past 20 years, the Astros would've never won a World Series… Correa, gone. Tucker, gone. Bregman, gone. Springer, gone. Altuve, old. Alvarez, bad knees. Take away can't miss lottery picks and Houston is okay more than good at prospect development.
How does a team watch four elite players walk, and end up with a naked farm system? Good luck trying to build a team worth a crap. Even in a season where the Mariners stop hitting for two months, you guys barely got past Seattle. A smart team would've overpaid for Tucker and let Altuve walk in his late-30s. Taking away Tucker and Bregman, you'll be lucky to win 80 games, and Paredes is trash, once teams stop pitching him in, his power will evaporate and you'll have nothing more than a role player. Only Cam Smith is good, and the 2025 draft is bad. End of a dynasty.
I think the Astros will make a trade for Luis Robert.
Dana Brown is destroying our team🤬
Goldschmidt would be a good on a two year deal. Can still mash it and is a very high character guy.
