  1. “The Browns believe that Watson can still play at a high level, and that the first seven games of this season were not a true reflection of his ability.“

Whatever. Trot this bum out in 2025 and waste another season.

How many “games are not a reflection of his ability” before we all realize that it is just that, a reflection of his inability.

  2. I really just do not understand how anyone in their right mind could genuinely think that Watson, after how miserable he was, after everyone got so much better after he got hurt, could genuinely think that there is any decent QB play left in Deshaun. I mean, as bad as he was this year, at least he was still vaguely mobile enough to occasionally do something. Without his mobility, can you even imagine how bad he will be?

Regardless, I think whoever they bring in as a FA and draft pick will take full advantage of spending all offseason as the starters in what I assume will be a new offense, and Watson won’t realistically have a chance to catch up, even if he is able to practice at the start of camp (which is extremely unlikely)

  3. Hope Watson is the most expensive bridge QB in history and if he doesn’t like teaching his replacement then he can quit 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

  4. What I think is (and has been) weird is every other Cleveland source has been saying or alluding to Watson not coming back, except MKC

Like last week Zegura was alluding that they can’t bring Watson back, and due to his position I don’t think he’d be able to say as much if they weren’t considering/planning on it. Other Cleveland media people have also said similar. But MKC is really the only writer who has been saying that a Watson return is the likely outcome

Like I really dont know what to expect anymore

Me and the boys trying to find this so called “high level” the FO thinks he can play at

  6. I love that we’re still pretending we just don’t have enough sample to make judgement yet

Oh yea and given prior precedent won’t we be well into 2026 anyways by the time the latest coat of rust starts coming off?

  7. This organization and front office have always upheld the attitude that they are “the smartest people in the room” when they consistently and regularly are proven otherwise. I don’t expect Haslam or any of his merry band of goons to gain self-awareness this late in the game.

  8. I’m coping with this by believing it’s all smoke, they’re just saying things they don’t actually mean for reasons

  9. I can hear Mary Kay now “we still don’t know what we have with Watson. We need a full season of Watson.”

  10. If they say they will give him a shot, I’m curious about what will happen when it’s obvious he’s not good enough to be the starter, again. Watson wasn’t just bad, it was unwatchable football, but even worse, it just tanked an entire season when they could have been competitive. I’m not going to waste my time next year because these guys won’t admit to a mistake.

  11. The Browns aren’t going to openly admit that they are done with a guy who is injured and still under contract, in the middle of a season. Unless he has been a major locker room issue and gone full Antonio Brown.

My guess is they will try to trade him and eat a big chunk of the salary to move on. If Watson truly believes he can still play, he won’t be willing to stay and complete.

It’s very unlikely he plays well again. But Imagine if he went to like LV or New Orleans and lit it up. I guarantee everyone will mock the Browns for trading him.

  12. If they trot him out as the starter again next year I’m completely checking out on the team until he’s gone for good.

It’s a great way to get guys like Garrett to demand to be traded.

  13. Lots of reports on this to the contrary by people in the know. He will be on the 53 but there’s a snowballs chance in hell he’s the starter next year. They aren’t going to embarrass him while he remains under contract for at least one more season and make him do scout team like the Texans did. I bet he is going to be paid to rehab.

  14. The guy isn’t even going to be ready to go week 1. It’s going to take 10-12 months from when he got injured, to be back and “ready” whatever the fuck that means.

  15. I’ve been watching the browns since jeff gacia. If they run watson again I will likely stop watching the browns for good. At least the old browns had heart. This team sucks

  16. No one thinks Watson will be the starter in the organization, but make that fucker work for his money and not coast for the rest of his contract.

If Watson genuinely believes he can be the starter and works his ass off to be the starter, and still fails to get the job, more hilarity ensues for me lol

  17. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. Cut his ass, he’s cooked.

  18. On its face this report seems bad. But he’s occupying so much money the Browns can’t really sign a Sam Darnold or and Aaron Rodgers (worst-case scenario) to be the starter next year. They also may not have a high enough draft pick to get one of the top QBs in what is a pretty mid QB class anyway. So, what can the front office and Stefanski really do? Hand DTR the job? Nope. Bring back Jameis to front a team that has hopes of a deep playoff run? I wouldn’t. So they still need all options available this offseason.

I think the fact they are saying Deshaun will compete is a step in the right direction, though. That means the Browns are fully ready to not start him if they don’t see what they want from him next offseason. If somehow he wows them, great. Contrast that to this year when there was no competition, all reports out of camp said the offense looked like terrible and disjointed, and they forged on with Watson anyway and we saw how that played out.

So while this may not seem to be the best news, it’s also not bad news.

  19. Watson knows he’s cooked. He is probably praying that the Browns just cut him so he can collect his money and disappear.

I think this is smart to send the message through the media that “yeah he can come back and compete for the starting job”

He’s been beat up enough and is hated so much that maybe he doesn’t want to come back.

Would he be willing to restructure his contract in away that saves the team some money and lets him walk away early with most but not all of the money?

I’m definitely speculating here. I’m also not suggesting that he would take some massive pay cut. I’m wondering if they can push is return from injury to mid season, insurance covers a good bit of his salary. throw in a slight restructuring and the Browns might be able to cut him after next season.

  20. This is a terrible puff piece defending Watson, I give Mary Kay kudos for trying but… yeah it’s everyone else’s fault Watson struggled, not the fact that he’s washed up

  21. Brissett, Flacco, Winston and even fucking DTR have all played better than this bum. What high level are they expecting?
