Good look at Capela’s play this season, and how he’s been better than most of us expected.
I thought he was close to cooked coming into the year and have been pleasantly surprised personally.
He’s finally healthy
I’m one of those people who called for his head the last 2 seasons. He’s been hooping and rim protecting stretch bigs are the hardest role players to find in the league, so that being his replacement is pretty unrealistic. I wish OO was that guy and Clint was coming off the bench killing 2nd units, but we’re playing solid ball so who cares.
Sorry Clint 😞.
Two things of things that have helped Capela this year:
– Dyson Daniels
– Jalen has to be guarded on the perimeter
Capela’s great against 70% of the Centers in the league but is completely dominated by Jokic, Embiid, AD, Giannis, Adebayo, etc. Then there’s the Centers that can shoot three’s as well. When he steps out of the box, he’s useless.
He’s an undersized, old school Center who can’t shoot free throws and while this year both he and OO look better because of Dyson, in previous years our defense looked horrible. Under Nate, he would do drop coverage exclusively and only under those circumstances, did Capela look good with Drop coverage. It’s time we got a good center instead of one that’s ok under certain circumstances.
Never been a clint capela hater, always said he was the 2nd most important part of our 2021 run.
I know we say this is a team built around Trae but I think it’s fair to say they are really building a team more holistically with complimentary people who bring out each other’s strengths… we have so many examples at this point: CC , Dre, Trae, JJ, even OO whose game has improved significantly in the past 2 ish years … sure we are a couple people and couple years away from being totally legit … in the sense that if one player goes down the team doesn’t stop wining completely which is definitely the case now if Trae, JJ or Dyson go down. These are the positions we need to strengthen I think.
Not until he stops missing layups
About a week ago I changed my flair from Clint to Dyson. I’m sorry, king. I changed it back, please forgive me.
this apology will be, maybe, half the volume of the disrespect
Don’t matter he gone at trade deadline no way we keep him, his contract gone be up we not gone resign him or let him walk for nothing both cases would be bad GM’ing
ima probably change my mind when he inevitably has a bad stretch of games but if we can extend him on a team-friendly deal, we really should.
I know everyone thinks its a foregone conclusion that CC will get shipped out as he is aging, but I honestly think we’re cooked if OO is starting at the 5 full time.
This is cool analysis but what happens if you take it one step further and adjust for how many damn bunnies he misses every game. Say he makes 2/3 of the bunnies he misses, what’s the breakeven on how many fewer plus plays on defense we’d need to lose? Would we have won or lost more games? If he’d make 4 more shots the defense rebounded and block two less shots…
Seeing him in person this season against Charlotte gave me a deeper level of appreciation for how hard he works.
No I don’t, he’s a shell of his Rockets self and the biggest hole on the court.
