[Bourguet] I asked Kevin Durant what he thought about the new format for the NBA All-Star Game: “I hate it. Absolutely hate it. Terrible….We should just go back to East-West.”

  1. Fast forward two years:

I asked Kevin Durant what he thought about the new East vs West format for the NBA All-Star Game: “I hate it. Absolutely hate it. Terrible…We should just go back to the draft.”

  2. The only argument for “East vs west is better” is that that’s how we used to do it. Pure tradition and that’s it.

I think the new format is great.

Teams of 8 means that you actually get to see everyone play.

Shorter games means the older guys don’t have to be locked in for an entire game.

The rising stars team is great because they’re gonna be motivated to actually beat the established stars. The nba has done a poor job at marketing young players and this is a step in the right direction.

Seems like a complete W to me

  3. He’s 100% right… but i would blame him partly for why it’s gotten like this.

If KD Bron and Steph came out and committed to playing hard, the young guys would follow. But since they don’t take it seriously neither do the young guys

Now, something could be said about players in their prime needing elder statesmen to push them to play hard, but that’s another convo.

  4. Enough with this all star game nonsense already. It’s been garbage for well over a decade now.

Scrap it. Implement a week-long 1v1 tournament and open the entry to any player. Watch the rookies ball out to win a $1 million prize

  5. At this point the NBA should just have the East vs West compete in a dodge ball match on the court

  6. Used to be the 4th quarter of the all star game was a legit game. KD is part of the superstars that ruined that by giving zero effort and turning it into a glorified lay up line.

They would be better off hosting an nba golf tournament at this point.

  7. They should cancel it..No one needs it for the past years, 20+ if you’re asking me. It’s laughable. Just let them rest and spend time with their families instead.

  8. Imo what needs to happen is for the league to get real with the player: do you want to play an all-star game or not? I feel like the answer is no. They want the accolade and to chop it up over the weekend maybe with some of their friends but that’s sorta it, like others have said the season is long and injuries are super costly financially for players so they probably wanna chill.

If that’s the case, NBA you can bring the horse to water but you can’t make it drink. Just cancel it and do the other stuff in the all-star weekend. It’s just bad publicity at this point

  9. Just make it a skills competition and forget the game. Three point contest, dunk contest, maybe a little 3 on 3 thing, some obstacle courses. Shit like that

  10. All star weekend just absolutely sucks anyway. Sure the dunk contest might have a cool moment or two every few years but that’s cooked. The skills contest is boring, the actual all star game itself is embarrassing. The 3pt contest has consistently been the most exciting part for years now. With players making so much money nowadays there’s just no way in hell you’re going to get these guys to play hard in a meaningless exhibition game, so like this new format or not at least they’re trying something

  11. East vs West had become trash…because of yall. Should have taken it more seriously if you wanted to keep it around.

  12. Y’all brought this on yourselves (y’all being the players). All the league and fans want is an asg where the players give a crap.

  13. I hope they all hate it. I hope they’re seething. They completely fucked a tradition that existed just fine before them.

Like Dr J said “we are caretakers of the game”. That is completely lost on today’s players.

  14. How about this – winning team gets to be called All Star, losing side gets that title revoked. Like you don’t get the all star label for the season.

Bet you’ll see them play the fuck out of it then! Those all star bonuses are nothing to laugh at.
