[Passan] BREAKING: OF/1B Cody Bellinger has been traded from the Chicago Cubs to the New York Yankees, sources tell ESPN. Bellinger, 29, is a former MVP and has two years remaining on his contract with an opt-out after 2025. Yankees continue to be aggressive post-Juan Soto.

Nice! What’s the full details
I’ve loved Bellinger forever so I love this. Will hate seeing the picture of him and Clay Bellinger on yes every night though lmao.
LETS GOO
He’s here!
Love it
I don’t love it BUT I do see the vision. Should hopefully be better than Verdugo at least
Kinda felt this needed to be done (OF or 1B and LHB), just hope the return isn’t too bad.
Only took Cody Poteet apparently. Perfect fit for us
Only Poteet, huh didnt expect a 1 for 1
Always thought he had one of the nicest swings in the league, it’ll look better in pinstripes
“FINALLY”-Dude from SpongeBob trying to buy all that chocolate and me waiting for the Cubs/Yankees to make this very obvious trade
It’s a good add. He’s a solid player on a short (although expensive) contract. Brings athleticism, speed, and defense. I’m ok with it considering the options.
This is a guy that I wanted in pinstripes for a while. Stick him in CF and get Santander or Walker to play 1st.
Dislike
(I actually meant Dis I Like)
Bruh, all Cashman gave up was Cody Poteet, phenomenal move
POTEET!? What a trade
>with an opt-out after 2025.
You get an opt-out. And YOU get an opt-out. EVERYBODY GETS AN OPT-OUT!
Anyone else old enough to remember when his father was on the Yankees
Fucking love this move. Allows us to still be aggressive at either OF or 1B
Clay’s baby boy comes home.
If the Yankees are just trading Poteet for Bellinger, then Matt Blake deserves a lot of credit for this deal happening.
Thank god. A week ago I didn’t want any part of Bellinger because I was so focused on Tucker, but he basically became a must-get with the way the market was shaping up.
Thank god it’s finally over and we can move on to other positions.
Now go and get Daniel bellinger from the giants so they can truly go belli to belli
Can’t wait to see all the “Don’t like it, Cody Poteet was going to be our ace in a few years” comments
Let’s Go. Belly is finally a Yankee. are we picking up his entire contract?
With Bellinger the Yanks can potentially have 3 20-20 guys with Dominguez, Jazz and Bellinger. This can make the lineup so dynamic and fun.
Considering that it only cost us Cody Poteet, and we’re also getting cash in the deal, this seems like a pretty good trade to me.
Cashman, okay, now do third base!
Just for giggles Bellinger’s 2.2 WAR last year in an off year was better than anything the Yankees got out of everyone who played 1B last year combined.
I’m very happy with this. Good lefty bat, great glove, great speed. Batting in front of Judge, he will see a lot of good pitches.
Back to back, belly to belli
We still need to add 2 more solid bats but Bellinger helps immensely
Spend baby spend!!! Who’s next!?!?
This past season, Anthony Rizzo, DJLM, Ben Rice and JDDavis combined for a bWAR of -2.0. Thus, Bellinger’s pedestrian bWAR of 2.2 is a nice upgrade if he plays 1st. Curious to see what happens in left field . . .
It ain’t Soto and it ain’t Tucker, but Belli is a GOOD, solid player and being able to play all the OF and 1B is a great mix. Can give the 1B a rest and play Grish out in CF on off days, or give Judge a few days off.
Eskimo Bros (Giancarlo and Cody) unite! ⛄️⛄️
Now imagine if we get Bregman and Walker. The world we live in, thanking Soto for leaving.
Honestly I’m pretty cool with this. We would have had to gut ourselves for Tucker and we get a guy who can play multiple positions. We just need him to not be 2021 Bellinger and if he is what he was the last 2 years as a Cub, he will be just fine. We really just need to figure out the infield corners and maybe an arm (why not) and that’s a wrap. I think we’ve done really well post Soto and I’d say the roster now is likely better than it was.
Well, if you bought a Bellinger jersey in the ‘99, it’s going to become a Bellinger jersey again. I’m sure Cody’s going to want to wear his dad’s number, especially with Clay Holmes no longer occupying that jersey.
