  1. Corbin was fantastic for the Orioles But, I really would rather they use that cash to sign Gunnar and Westburg and possibly Adley to long term contracts. The Pirates say they are interested in trading Jared Jones. That is a trade I would love to see them make happen.

  2. Burnes said he wants to be on a team that is poised to win for a long time. The Giants are poised to finish 3rd or 4th for the duration of a Burnes contract.

  3. If this is true that Burnes doesn’t want to resign with the O’s then why haven’t the O’s pivoted and signed another top of the rotation type starter or traded for one? Unless you guys believe that Sugano his that replacement which would be so sad and yet so Orioles.

  4. As a Giants fan living in Baltimore for the last 20 years this was a fun conversation. Good luck to the O's, but watch out…Buster is bringing back THE Bay Area.

  5. Good conversation about what may influence Corbin Burnes' decision about where to sign. It brings to mind how Santander expressed he wanted to come back and yet it seems he will not get an offer from the O's. Aside from his production, Santander is a team guy and a leader in the clubhouse. The younger guys like Henderson and Cowser look up to him. He is part of what makes coming to work fun for this team. While they don't want to risk getting stuck with a big long-term contract with an aging player as a rule, it seems they are willing to freely spend money in other instances where there is also risk of non-performance. Maybe it would have been worth spending several million more a year to bring Santander back if you factor in what you are paying for in replacement costs and the affect not doing so may have on the clubhouse culture and the perceived desirability of Baltimore as a place for free agents. How the club treats Santander – a guy who played well for them over years, was a great team leader, and wanted to stay in Baltimore – might not send the greatest message to the team's younger stars who the O's presumably want to sign long term.
