We got Sosa admitting PEDs before Embiid conference finals
…what happened? I’m out if the loop here
Any reason for this statement? This is a very odd time to admit steroid use.
Not sure “I made some mistakes and I apologize” is the full reconciliation Ricketts is looking for. (Not that I think he needs to, the Cubs would not be as popular as they are today if it weren’t for Sammy, Tom should be jumping at the chance to get him back in the fold.)
Thanks for bringing this to my attention, Sammy, I forgive you.

If it’s supposed to be an actual act of contrition, maybe coming clean would be good – to say nothing of not putting it on the letterhead of the PR firm who wrote it….?
The Cubs should honor him
He still isn’t admitting to taking PEDs.
Welcome home Sammy
Left all that cork on the field.
Man I loved Sosa back in the day. I hope he’s doing well and doesn’t look like a ghost still
Why is the organization acting all high and mighty about his steroid use? He made the team millions of dollars bc of it and they definitely knew. Unless it’s about something else and not the roids the organization has no leg to stand on.
So he’s being suspended 80 games for the 2025 season?
Saying you used PEDs only to recover from injury seemed to be a good enough excuse for Andy Pettitte. I’m sure everyone will give Sammy the same level of forgiveness and acceptance.
who the hell cares no apology is necessary for being part of why 8 year old me fell in love with the game
Until Bud Selig apologizes and admits to knowing this was going on, none of the PED users should have to admit or apologize to anything. Everyone knew, EVERYONE.
I mean he’s not wrong he entertained a lot of people. But this excuse these guys did it to recover for injuries needs to stop. They took it to get an advantage and get bigger contracts.
Incredibly weird saga. Even by Cubs standards.
Even being a Cards fan, the iconic image of him running to right field holding an American flag in the first game at Wrigley after 9/11 is something I will never forget.
I’m not a cubs fan so I’m confused why he felt the need to issue a statement now. Instead of dipping his toe in, he may as well dip the whole leg in and come 100% clean. Sammy’s always been a beloved figure in baseball, regardless of alleged PEDs. I always thought it was kinda criminal how MLB used him and McGwire to revive baseball, only to cast them away years later when everything was good again
There goes that one Baseball Bits video
Do you want to know the terrifying truth? Or do you wanna see me sock a few dingers??
People always mention steroids, but he also got in trouble for corking his bat at one time too didn’t he?
Anyway, whatever. Cool if he and the Cubs kiss and make up.
He brought the cubs so much money and popularity and recognition and they just threw him under the bus…classy organization…
Sammy Sosa: hit dingers, waved an American flag after 9/11, overall badass
Ricketts: ruined a great Chicago neighborhood by making it generic and sterile, did not wave an American flag after 9/11, overall dweeb
I side with Sammy
Owners, the MLB and writers all knew what was going on and did nothing about it. Now they all act like what players did was so heinous and wrong. Everyone was just trying to get paid and they all did. Players got contracts, writers got views, owners got people to come to games and watch.
Let’s just call it what it is. A massive mistake on baseball and ownership. I want apologies from owners for allowing it to happen. I want apologies from baseball for not doing anything until 1991 and not testing until 2003.
Shame on the Cubs. The only reason why people actually watched the team or went to games in the early 2000s was to watch Sosa. Now that he can’t make them any more money they force him to apologize.
“Dude, you don’t have to admit it, trust me” – Big Papi
I don’t hold it against them.
MLB was spiraling down, Bud “thank you steroids” Selig, had no problem with them being used, team owners, didn’t say squat. If they ever, which is never, take accountability for their terrible leadership, then maybe, but Sosa, Bonds, Mac, and others, saved all these billionaires. Who knows if baseball would be where it’s at now had it not been for them.
I’m not saying the players did it for the game’s or fans’ benefit, neither did any of them.
Sammy and Mark saved baseball, with the blessing of Selig. No need to apologize, that season was the most fun I’ve ever had following baseball.
The steroid era was great for baseball, and all those HOF players should be in the hall
I don’t quite understand the hate for the steroid era players. They cheated but like, didn’t a good chunk of players also cheat and that was essentially the standard back then? What would we put the percent at? 50? 60? More?
At least he admitted it and said it was wrong and apologized. He gets credit for that in my book. I hope the Cubs let him come back around.
When so much of the league was using steroids in that era, I don’t vilify those players as much as I did when I was younger. Not to say they get a pass, but that it’s fair to understand how players could feel like they were more pressured to use them in a much different environment in comparison to the game now
Steve Bartman might disagree with the best fans in baseball part.
They all did PEDs back then and some still do. I don’t care either way.
That black ink will turn white in a few years
As a huge Thomas fan, I should care about the steroid guys, but I don’t. Those years were fun, and I give no shits about being downvoted.
