Yes!!
Welcome home Sammy. I'm more than happy to see you back with the Cubs where you belong. #GoCubsGo
Long overdue. It never made sense that the organization distance themselves from Sosa when they had Manny Ramirez and Mark McGwire working in the organization in some capacity.
What's up fellas….welcome back Sammy!! Michael Richard from the "BESTBANK" of New Orleans….WHO DAT!!!!!
I’m from Syracuse, NY and I became a Cubs fan as a kid because of Sammy Sosa, Kerry Wood, Mark Prior, and WGN for always having their games on. Glad to hear Sammy is back!
If we are bringing back old legends, why not bring back KB to back up at 1st and 3rd? I mean I know the money is an issue but would be cool to bring back one of the 2016 champs after loosing the professor…
That’s kind of a BS comment. Sammy hopefully has and will continue to come clean. He was by all accounts not a favorite of his teammates and he was an embarrassing figure at times to the fans. Forgiveness is fine, remember who is apologizing in these statements, the owners have done nothing wrong.
Great news for Cubs fans!
Long, long overdue — just thrilled the man and organization got this done before Sammy passed the bridge. The first book I ever purchased myself was the Sosa V Mcguire home run race anthology; I knew the ending, but was still rooting hard for Sammy with every turnt page… I say that to say this; I owe much of my love for baseball to two men. My father — who was drafted by the white sox (ugh) but never got above AA — of course, and Slammin' Sammy Sosa! Love this for Sammy, Love this for the org, but mostly I love that the most important player of my childhood is no longer persona non grata to my favorite organization. Good work to everyone involved!
Love it
Welcome back Sammy
Go cubs
What about corked bat
Can he play 3rd?
Sosa is a user, a cheater, a liar, and a hothead. What he did to baseball, (and what he's trying to do now with his non-apology apology) are reprehensible. This pretense is all financially motivated, and I for one, am disgusted.
rule are rules followed
Merry Christmas to us!!
That's cool, but did we trade for luzardo yet?
Locked on Cubs Merch? Someone show me where.
Such good news. I was 31 in 1998, but I hold that season like a childhood memory. Not to mention Sammy sprinting onto the field, with the American flag, will live in my thoughts forever. Thank you to Sammy ands Ricketts for the homecoming.
It’s a shame so many fans worship a fraud. He was too good to hit the cutoff regardless of his lack of assists. Steroids, Cork and a smashed boom box are his true legacy.
This is long over due! Baseball was Struggling until Mark McGuire and Sammy put on s Show for the world to see. I STILL have an un-opened Box of Wheaties with Sammy's potential autographed baseball card in it, WELCOME HOME SAMMY!!!
Can't wait to see the Tucker/Sosa platoon!
Sammy hit his 37th hr of the big season directly to me in the RF bleachers. It was slow motion, I froze and didnt lift up my glove. It bounced off the guy in front of me who had his hands up and went into the basket. Our photo ended up in Sports Illustrated. Even though i froze it is my best childhood memory. Go cubs!
So happy my childhood "hero as a kid"
Historically, Sosa is one of the most important Cubs. Put this dumb chapter to rest.
Grew up a latchkey kid in NC. Sammy on WGN day games basically babysat me for many years. He’s the reason I fell in love with baseball and the Cubs!
I realize you both and others have an emotional bond with Sosa. He was a childhood hero of many and no doubt he and McGwire's rivalry brought back baseball. (Banks was my childhood hero). I can forgive him for the steroids, since it was a common practice and baseball hadn't banned them. However, I don't forgive Sosa for not owning up to it earlier, walking out on his team the last game of the season, causing friction in the clubhouse, the corked bat (which I will never believe was a one time thing) and faking that he couldn't speak english. I'm glad this now has closure but it would be unfortunate if he gets a statue and/or a foul pole pennant. IMO he is not in the same class as Banks, Williams, Santo, Jenkins and Sandberg.
Those summers in the late 90s early 00s racing home from school to watch Sammy hit .
Sammy belongs in Chicago he's a true Cubs icon
It's very big news. Welcome back, Sammy Sosa.
why are they signing more outfielders?
I was at the game in St. Louis in which Sammy and MM both hut home runs…it was an amazing game I will never forget even if they were juiced
Sammy Sosa is still the Cubs career all time Home Run leader. It is possible that Sammy Sosa will get his number retired. He might also be inducted into the Chicago Cubs team Hall of Fame. As for the National Baseball Hall of Fame, it is like a club. Not every great player from the past can have an individual plaque. The National Baseball Hall of Fame does honor great events from the past such as the 1998 MLB Season.
Sosa is our generation's Ernie Banks. My first Cubs game was the day after my 11th birthday. 8/19/1998 vs STL. Sammy hit # 48 to take the lead in the race, but McGwire came right back with 48 and 49. Cubbies lost that day 6-8 making their record 69-57. Boys I just dropped that from memory because I remember it like it was yesterday.
I've always been amused that the Cubs never needed an apology when they were making a fortune off his labor.
fucking love sammy
Sammy was GREAT at Club 400, absolute joy to meet him, hoping to see him and you guys at the convention!
Anything below
As time goes by and people are more indoctrinated since birth into the "better living through chemistry" paradigm (the thing in 2020 being a prime example), I think people will be more accepting of the steroid era in baseball. I'm not saying I personally agree with it. I'm just saying how I see things trending.
Sammy walked out on Cubs and did steroids.. so why have a emergency podcast? Why not keep everyone who is a cub fan. About Ryno and keeping everyone up to date.
Ryno is a better cub than Sosa
