Well played, Tom. You’ve forced my hand. I’ve never been before but if I have the chance to thank the man that made me a Cubs fan, I gotta take that chance.

Uhhh I guess? lol
It cannot be overstated what Sammy meant to this fanbase in his era. Welcome home Sammy, about time!
That’s one way to sell tix.
Then there is the celebration at the park
Then the retirement
I’ve been to Cubs Convention a few times, and it’s tons of fun! But be aware: it is *extremely* difficult to get autographs, or to get into the most popular panels. It’s much easier for season ticket holders (at least when I was one, because there’s separate autograph sessions just for them. Not sure if they still do that). And for the Opening Ceremony or any panel with Sosa, be prepared to wait in line for several hours.
Autographs are free (aside from a small room with some HoF players selling for charity), which is awesome, but because of that, literally everyone is trying. Sosa, Sandberg, anyone on the current roster, and (if they’re there) Zambrano and Travis Wood will almost assuredly be random drawing only—meaning when you pick up your swag bag, there will be a little pull tab card thing. 99% of them are 5-15% off from the souvenir store. But if you get lucky, it’ll say you’ve got an autograph at a specific table at a specific time. Cross check the time with the schedule in the program to see who’s signing at that table at that time, and that’s who your autograph is for.
If you don’t luck into a pull tab, you will not be able to even try to line up for Sosa, Sandberg, or a current player. There *will* be autographs for other former players and some minor leaguers that you can simply line up for, but again, the lines are other-worldly. If you’ve been to comic cons, those autograph lines are nothing compared to this, because it’s free. And the guests don’t sign long. If they’re schedule for an hour, they’re leaving at the end of that hour no matter how many people are still in line.
The convention is a blast, but don’t expect to leave with tons of signatures, especially from popular guests, and especially if you’re not a season ticket holder. Enjoy the panels, line up omega early for popular panels (or bingo), and enjoy the weekend. Also don’t be the person who’s in a Q&A panel and the “question” you ask is “can I have your autograph”. It’s awkward, super annoying to everyone watching, and the moderators almost always say no before the players can even answer.
