[Evan Sidery] “The Mavericks are a team to watch as buyers on the trade market…”

I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if the game last night was kind of like a “okay we’re comfortable losing this game let’s remove Luka and Kyrie from the equation since they’re a little banged up anyways and see what the rest of the roster has for us this year and who needs to go”
Wow what a groundbreaking report thanks Evan
But buying what? That’s what I’m most interested in. The only “obvious” hole is a backup PF
Who is Evan sidery and what does he know
Nico should not be moving the 2025 first round pick unless it’s a real impact player.
We’re two deep everywhere but the 4 spot. I’d sacrifice that first for a Gafford level production power forward, ie Obi Toppin. Wouldn’t let it go for the tier below that in DFS, Boucher, Jalen Smith, etc.
A lot of people are clamoring for PJ backup. IMHO we with Naji/Grimes we have backups for the on ball defense. What is harder to replace is his rebounding.
The obvious trade chip is Maxi. That being said, when healthy Maxi can be an X-factor and has shown this time and again despite people calling for him to traded season after season.
I don’t think Dodo improves us in terms of on ball defense and he isn’t a great rebounder. Plus he doesn’t fit our general timeline.
One option could be Brandon Clark who is still trying to back from an achilles heel injury. Grizzlies seem to have a replacement with Santi Aldama they will need to pay next offseason and Clarke is still on the books for several years. At the same time Markus Smart is not delivering for them.
So what about Maxi+Dante for Clark? We should shed a bit of salary and open a roster spot to be active on the trade market.
Note obviously Dante would have to be back healthy. Also note this would make it less likely that we can afford to keep Grimes, though since he is an RFA we could go into the tax to still retain him depending on what he will be offered.
The there is the question of draft compensation. Clarke still looks athletic but also clearly not (yet) his former self.
Being a Beatwriter must be the easiest job ever
how was gortman last night? The few minutes I watched, he did well. Just had a few dumb plays and a couple defensive lapses. I didn’t get to watch but maybe a few minutes of him being in.
Nico is always active in every trade deadline. Wouldn’t be surprised if we didn’t actually make a move tho since we are pretty deep. Only one that hopefully be moved is maxi and maybe get someone on an expiring deal and then eventually we can put prosper in the rotation as the backup four
That’s it, that’s the tweet
I trust nico but we should not experiment at this stage and trade away some important pieces. Dont fix it if it aint broke. We could try to trade away scrubs like maxi or hurt dante or morris dude or and such.. but we would get back scrubs too.
I mean, this absolutely makes sense. We have a window right now and an impact player to our roster is worth more than a future pick.
There’s no reason why we shouldn’t be listening to any offers right now, especially if they don’t disrupt our core roster.
I’ve thought too much about trades this early in the season. I trust Nico with my life.
That 2025 FRP and Philly SRP could make really nice additions for helping bring in a needle mover. This draft is loaded and will make a nice sweetener to a selling team
I understand this fan base doesn’t want to give up any assets to receive another one in return, however I just wanna say it is so nice to have actual trade pieces. Like we have salaries we can pitch in to make numbers work, picks (albeit not a treasure trove of them), and contracts that make it to where we don’t have to overpay for a salary dump cause just about any player we would have in a deal would be at worst a net neutral for making a trade work.
If we can get DFS back cheaply to make Luka happy I would want to do that but otherwise I’m happy with sticking with our current construction. I think we’ve made a bunch of really good moves over the past two years and should try and maximise chemistry by keeping the crew together.
Dodo come home
Im trading Maxi and Hardy first chance I get for Backup 4. Maxi just isn’t what he used to be and Hardy can benefit from being somewhere he can play 20+ mins and speed up his development
We have to replace Maxi. He’s not the same player anymore.
If Brooklyn is in sell off mode, and we could get Dorian for Maxi and a pick. Or someone like him for almost nothing, that’s the move for me.
