Wemby on not being boxed in: “The Spurs are helping me as much as they can… A lot of self-awareness is needed, a lot of humility I think to be able to rewatch those moments in games where you either struggled or you played bad….The lack of freedom would be a bullet in the foot, simple as that.”

Full quote from the two part question (to the best of my ability):

“Every day, it’s a lot of self-awareness that’s needed. The Spurs are helping me as much as they can and they are guiding me the best way they can. But at the end of the day, I’m on the court. I make the right choices and I make the wrong choices. So a lot of self-awareness is needed, a lot of humility I think to be able to rewatch those moments in games where you either struggled or you played bad, simple as that. It’s a whole adventure that people don’t see on TV, and that’s completely on us as professional athletes to take care of that.”

“The lack of freedom would be for me a bullet in the foot, simple as that. Because our goal as much mine as the organization’s is to accomplish all of our potentials.”

**General overview of everything else covered:**

    * Assessment of the end of the game
    * Getting his foot stepped, which led to him falling
    * Feeling more comfortable with this current starting group
    * Handling the hostile Philly crowd
    * If he felt players were avoiding challenging him in the 2nd half while on defense
    * How things changed with Embiid’s ejection
    * Playing on Christmas in New York

  2. Not directly related to this post, but you do an amazing job of posting so much content in this sub. Thank you. Genuinely, thank you.

  3. We’re all for the freedom and not putting Vic in a box. It’s only year two.

But there’ll come a time where he’ll need to prioritise either not being put in a box or winning. Which is more important to him?

Tonight was just an weird/ugly example but taking advantage of a mismatch is a huge part of the game.
