No Goldy, no Walker, no Burnes….what’s next

  1. At this point, just make a couple “fun” short-term moves and call it a day. Kim for some JHL bromance and Scherzer/Verlander for oldhead energy. Gives you the classic “maybe a WC team if things go right” but mostly leaves room to play young guys and continue building towards the future without having a clubhouse completely devoid of life.

  2. Goldy and Walker were bad fits with the progress Eldridge has been making. No way the Giants are going to install a starter over top of him, when he could be ready for the show in 2026.

And Burnes… you really want a 2-year deal that’s going to cost two draft picks, which could turn into a 6-year albatross if Burnes turns to shit or gets hurt?

I’ve been critical of assuming Posey’s going to fix everything by being the new POBO, but I can’t find fault in him cutting bait on those three players.

  3. Probably some middle of the rotation pitchers like a Flahrety, Heaney or a Hoffman (if they want a Hicks 2.0) and some veterans that can eat innings like maybe Verlander or Scherzer.

Maybe they pivot back to one of the Kims, but I doubt the sign anyone else major. Burnes was the only realistic one and I can’t envision them looking at Alonso or Santander.

  4. I was scanning the current starting pitching the last few days and it’s not terrible. Just unproven. We have Webb.

    (1) Coming off injury: Ray, Winn, Beck (2) Need to nurse their innings: Harrison, Birdsong, Hicks (3) Darkhorse: Roupp looked very solid except for his last outing (4) “Meh”: Hjelle, Mason Black, Seymour, Ragsdale (5) Prospects: Whisenhunt, McDonald

Just would require a lot of mixing and matching through the year.

  5. It’ll be funny watching this sub go full manic depressive if the Giants sign Sasaki in the next 24 hours

  6. Wildest bad answer: trade for Montgomery as a salary dump and make the Dbacks give up a good prospect. Dude would be motivated since he’s in a contract year.

  7. Goldy or Walker are not really huge losses of any kind. Why do people want to build this team through free agency? It never works.
