So basically,
Work it harder
Make it better
Do it faster
Makes us stronger.
Good article. Last night was a good physical for the tram and I think it showed maybe there’s no fixing Petry especially after he bumped that one puck back into the high slot.
I did like this quote though
“The things that Todd wants to bring in are simple things, but bringing team spirit and life back to us,” Larkin said. “And that’s something that we’ve been lacking.”
I liked his post game presser what a breath of fresh air it is to hear the coach actually speak about the team
I really liked the way he spoke to the media post game versus how Gru used to do it. Todd came off as much more honest and it wasn’t a bunch of “oh well if you looked at our underlying numbers”
Guys, this is a real coach.
“We’re going to start with the defense tomorrow” statement was the best I heard.
I liked what I saw last night despite the score. We shot a lot more than usual and were physical through all 3 periods, but it’s the Leafs, even without Matthews they’ve been playing relatively well.
It showed that the goal tending sucks!
>“I think right now, I would call the group kind of mechanical,” he said. “And you can’t play that way. Your systems and your structure allow you to get to places. But then you have to play hockey. You have to rely on instincts.
>“It’s like, (if) somebody’s chasing somebody, OK, well now I’ve got to hand them off and get to the middle of the rink. Well, that’s what coaches teach. But if you’re engaged with the player, finish the play. And I see us being mechanical, I see us being tentative, I see us leaving our feet a lot. … We have work to do.
All this right here. For the longest time I’ve been saying it’s almost as if they’re fighting their instincts out there, struggling with the fundamentals. You’d see guys yelling and pointing at each other’s missed assignments as if to say “coach said you’re supposed to be over there.” Giving up on a play because it’s not shaking out exactly how it was planned.
Real breath of fresh air to read the new guy calling these problems out right from the start. Hopefully they can build on the positives we already saw yesterday
The moment we play 60 minutes per game we become a much better team and a playoff team.
