[dohyoungpark] Twins fans: It’s been the honor of a lifetime to have shared these last six seasons with you all. I can’t possibly thank you enough.

  1. Full Statement:

    Hi, friends —

I’m awful at goodbyes, so I consider myself very fortunate that this isn’t really goodbye; it’s just the start of a new journey.

After six incredible seasons, I’m moving on from the Twins beat. I’ll be transitioning to MLB’s Statcast team as a developer, and that’s a step I’m thrilled for and grateful to take as the next challenge in my baseball work. (I guess it’s about time I finally started to use my engineering degrees, really.)

It’s also the toughest decision I’ve ever had to make, and I owe that to you all.

From the bottom of my heart: Thank you so much for welcoming me back to Minnesota with open arms, for all your supportive messages and greetings at the ballpark, for the still hard-to-believe opportunity to write about my hometown team while representing a fanbase and state I care so deeply about.

I’m a St. Paul kid who grew up going to games at the Metrodome (my first and second games were Boof Bonser starts) and got to cover the end of the playoff losing streak, with a front-row seat in that clubhouse. That’s a journey I tried to never take for granted. This incredible community of people in Minnesota shaped me and has always meant everything to me.

And again, this isn’t goodbye. In my new role, I’ll still be watching as many Twins games as I can with you all, and posting about them, and speculating, and joking — just not through the lens of a beat reporter. I’ll have fun with that.

Take good care of Dan, Aaron, Betsy, Bobby and Phil. They’re the best — as is everyone I’ve gotten the honor to work with around the Twins over the years, as are all of you.

    Do

  2. I’ve got to say… Do was my favorite Twins beat reporter. Such an honest, awesome guy who loved the Twins. We will miss you DO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. Nooooooooo

I wish him the best luck ever in his new role, hopefully our new reporter will be half as cool as he was (if we’re super lucky)

  4. Aw man, I will miss Do’s positive and realistic attitude. Hope to see you posting in Reddit (or on Reddit via Twitter) in the future!

  5. Damn I am going to miss him. That’s a real good career move though he is making the right call. Plus I wouldn’t want to be tethered to this team this year either unless or until the Pohlad’s finally sell.

  6. Dang, sad to see Do go. Can’t say I’m surprised though, the guy is incredibly overqualified for the job.

    Best of luck Do!

Gleeman needs a new buffer for Dan…

  7. Do has a bright future working in Baseball, I am sad to see him leave the beat but know he’s gonna kill it on the Statcast team

  8. Dang. Good for him. Always appreciated his stuff, including when he’d interact here on Reddit. Good luck and godspeed!

  9. That’s amazing.

Congrats on the new gig, Doh! I hope you can share a few details (is this a hardware gig, data science, or web / app / API development gig?)

  10. I’m really going to miss Do on the Twins beat. It was clear he loved this team but always provided a fair and honest assessment of how things were going. Congrats to Do on the new gig!

  11. Actually devastating. But what a great opportunity. Congrats u/dhpmlb, please remember us! And still hang out sometimes??

  12. Wow…congrats! You’ll be missed but very happy for you! Best of luck in your new gig!

  13. Do, get in these comments and feel the love! I know I’ve always appreciated you engaging with us here. You’re a great writer and analyst, and I’m happy you’ll be building even more baseball skills. Best of luck!

  14. My favorite Do moment is when I asked on an AMA if he thought we were GOMQ in 2023 and he called it. Wish I could post the screenshot.

  15. Fuck me, we lost *Do?* Can’t have shit in Minnesota..

I hope he kicks ass in his new job though.

  16. No hate on Park, but what happened to beat writers staying in one job for their entire career? Seems like everyone is constantly changing positions in sports media

  17. DHP is the fucking best man we were so lucky to have him writing about our little team 🩷

  18. Nooooo. Damn, this is sad, but I’m glad he’s gonna put his smarts to use in something hopefully more lucrative as he deserves. So happy for him and it’s wonderful that he gets to stay involved in baseball as well!

Do, if you’re reading this, please don’t stop hopping in Aaron and John’s podcast from time to time!
