Predictably, this has been the longest practice of the season, approaching an hour on the ice, wrapping up with a sprint around the rink. #RedWings via Ansar Khan

  1. I’m sorry, what?

The team hasn’t spent more than 1 hour on the ice practicing all season?

    What am I missing here?

  2. No wonder they’re looking slow as fuck. You need reps especially once you start aging. Think of Colorado practicing at ALTITUDE for an hour compared to whatever the hell we’ve been up to. Insane to think about

  3. They haven’t practiced more than a hour all season? What the hell? That’s not even worth the drive into the city for them to do less than an hour.

  4. Well, let’s hope he got some fire lit in them. I noticed that as he started tweaking lines in the 3rd period, the Wings looked a lot better. The Veleno – Larkin – Raymond line was really buzzing at times.. for example.

  5. NHL practices are always short. 82 regular season games, workouts, meetings, video work and medical treatment. No offence but anyone complaining because they practiced longer in high school doesn’t really know what they’re talking about

  6. Anywhere between 20 minutes to an hour appears to be a typical practice length in the NHL. Practice isn’t primarily for conditioning, conditioning is done in the gym. Practice is for practicing.

  7. An hour? That’s it? Now I see the light – get in there for 2-3 hours. If I can watch a 3 hour game they should at least practice as long.

  8. An hour is a long ass practice in the NHL. 82 games. Conditioning and strength training is done at the gym. They also have coaching sessions and PT.

Practice is literally just running drills and learning the system.

  9. Even if it’s not unusual for practices to be shorter, given that the biggest thing that makes me die inside watching the team is the players passing like they’ve never met eachother, it doesn’t seem like a bad idea to have a little extra time on ice in practice

  10. McLellan also commented that the practice was a little to long for this time of year during his availability afterwards

  11. Anyone know if Mclellen addressed the team in the locker room after the game last night? It always struck me as weird that lalonde wouldn’t do that.
