Slusser: Giants Discussions With Corbin Burnes Never Advanced Much Beyond Initial Talks

“Arizona landed Burnes with a six-year, $210 million offer after San Francisco’s pursuit never advanced much beyond initial talks at the general manager meetings, industry sources said, and an offer made at that point did not get things off the ground.“
Oh well. He would have been fun to have in his prime with our ballpark.
So what was that Giants are pushing hard bs? Journalism is a joke I thought Giants were heavily favored
Wait so we never had an offer out there over $200m? Even though it was highly reported that we had 245 and were in the lead?
Wonder if the opt out was mandatory and because of that talks never really progressed
In other words, baseball writers did what they usually do: claimed a team was still in it and then reported what terms player was seeking. Anything else was just for views.
There’s also “Giants are frustrated with the lack of advancement” narrative we saw, which it seems turned out to be at least somewhat true. Burnes wanted to stay close to home, if there was unreported talks with AZ and he was just using everyone else for leverage, that’s all there is.
I guess good on Buster for realizing this was a waste of time before it was official?
Can this finally put the Bay Area Bob and other Twitterati nonsense to bed, not that there was ever any doubt?
I just hate what journalism has turned into
Fuck off sports media. Let me know when there is actually something to report.
Weak
National baseball writers are front office/agent pawns and nothing more
