All this shows is that the new generation of fan has no patience or knowledge of what it takes to win. Show me a better Gm than Yzerman. People want miracles instead of dealing in actual fact. The organization is better than it was when he started. Period. Larkin was the best player he had to start with. Seider Raymond Casper and Edvinsson are budding stars. We have players coming in the system. Without a generational talent being available then you need to get extremely lucky. He is building for sustained success not just a quick playoff run for nothing. Needs a little help from the hockey GODS.
Red Wing fans have become 'fickle'.
Team Wings is undersized especially on the offense side, as a group they also lack speed, toughness isn't remotely visible with a few exceptions, this is illustrated when opposing teams stand around our goalies during and after scoring chances. Many players won't engage in checking let alone finish a check. 82 games played against men who out weigh you by 20 – 35 lbs. and by size can shield the puck will win 90% of the battles reason Wings are last in the league with 5-on-5 play. The fix is complicated, how long should a rebuild take, only the owners can determine that answer.
It took Tampa a decade to win it's cup after Yzerman took over. A lot of what yzerman put together during his time in Tampa were instrumental in their back to back wins.
Reading between the lines, if I were Larkin I would have my bags packed. Yzerman will probably send him to Chicago so he can hang out with his buddy the leading scorer or the Blackhawks a.k.a. Tyler Bertuuuuuuzzi. 🤔🤨🤯🤷🤗🙀🫣🙈🤫 LOL
Larkin doesn't deserve to be called out, it's just the nature of being captain.
Todd said it best -"It looks like Larkin carrys a lot of that weight on his shoulders, I've got to find some other guys who are willing to put that on themselves and it starts with me. You can ask me those questions".
Larkin has never put that burden on anybody else or had anybody else offer to take some of that pressure of him until now.
DL needs to say nothing and perform on ice.
Maybe if this fanbase actually knew how a rebuild works they wouldn’t have been pressuring Yzerman to make the playoffs just to get bounced in the first round. Then maybe he wouldn’t have tried plugging a bunch of holes in a sinking ship with slow middle aged free agents. We should have been tanking for bedard, celebrini, hell we could have even gotten demidov at 5 this year. Instead we’ve been drafting a bunch of two way guys outside of the top 5. This team is cursed.
Teams won't trade with him because of the 2 teams he built in tampa! Also Larkin isn't that guy! He's just a good 2nd liner on a playoff team. Same with raymond. Seider is the only game changer the readings have. They need a couple grinders and do everything to get Brady tkachuk!!)
I've never cared for Larken from his first day of captaincy. I've never seen him as a true leader or had the grit like vintage Stevie. It trends towards whining. I'd trade him in a heartbeat.
My guy, the wings sucked that whole game, stop trying to give them a bone. The Leafs, as they do, stopped playing in the third.
I'm okay with the way Yzerman handled the press conference. It shows me that he is frustrated. And now we can move forward.
Larking definitely needs to be called out take away the C. The problem is that the vets brought in (Kane and Tarasenko) are basically beta personality types and the younger guys really need someone or something to latch on to. This team has no identity. I watch this trainwreck every game and I don't have a clue other than maybe a bunch of listless guys skating around aimlessly is who they really are.
STEVE YZERWOMAN HAS NO PLAN ….LALONDE WAS A DISASTER AS COACH GAVVE AWAY FOR FREE WALLMAN FOR FREE KEPT A CRAP PLAYER LIKE HALL A DMAN LOOKS LIKE A FIREHYDRANT THAT NEVER MOVES….YZERWOMAN IS PURE THE WORST G.M RIGHT KNOW ….TIED WITH CHRIS DRURY N.Y RANGERS
Fire yzerman hire Ken Holland
In all fairness Detroit's first rounders with SY look the part, they are very capable.
It is their draft selections after the 1st round that have caused a lot of headache. Instead of their own later round prospects filling in the holes, Yzerman has to spend on the fringe type UFA players plugging holes……. for bad and worse.
The triple C of Copp/Compher/Chariot has not put this roster into high gear either
I could tell him that her number of ways to run a team better, she's not a good g. M he was a good player, but he's trash as a gm
I like Larkin but he needs to be better in offensive zone period. He makes way to many blind passes resulting in giveaway’s every game! This has to change in his game. Yzerman needs to get better at signing better free agents just do it. Larkin needs to make better decisions with the puck sometimes he looks like he’s trying to do a lot by himself. The other players need to play way better especially the defensive corps
compher, kopp, rass, tarastinko, petry, sheot, whoever these goalies are( pick one). these guys are slow and not interested. rasmussen does what exactly? top ten pick that we have to have. sure. it sucks that yzerman wheels and deals like he does press conferences. nothing to see or hear. waiting for the kids. lets go…2027
Yzerman isn't getting the job done. The RedWings are the worst pro team in Detroit. Even the Pistons are showing improvement. The RedWings need to make changes that include Yzerman.
I'm just hoping that out of all this mess the big sweeping changes Wings fans have been waiting for while begin. What those will be remains to be seen, but I believe they will happen.
Wings are a dumpster fire 😂
I personally never thought Larkin should be the captain. I know right now there really is no one else to fill that role, but it just never felt right to me. Maybe because we were spoiled having Yzerman and Lidstrom as captains. But then what do I know, (nothing really), I’m not ice side or in the locker room. He may be a great captain for all I know, only the players can answer that. It has never felt right to me though, as a long time fan watching from a distance.
The Wings are a mess. Good period at the end on Friday, but played against lines 2, 3, 4 of Leafs at that time. Every single member of the organization should be in the hot seat. Bar none!
Larkin is an option to be traded this season.
i would have signed lainkenen over talbot
Larkin never struck me as the captain type. He is good, but his personality doesn't jive with being a captain. The Wings have been screwed by the draft over and over. I don't care for the veteran signee's…but just like the draft…you can only sign/draft the available players. The development of the kids takes time. The next couple seasons are going to be crucial, alot of kids should be coming.
Takes 3 yrs draft picks to prove worth.Holland left him with rookie Leaguers. His recent draft has been good.
I think fans/people/media forget what it took to get Seider and Raymond signed to long-term deals. Losing Jake Wallman and Shane Gostisbwhere, a very large loss in offensive production. Now I’ve got to make the best of it what they have until they can move some pieces.
I don’t understand why the importance of a checking line..or even just a checking/energy player is never brought up. The Wings play scared a lot of the time because there is nobody on the team to stick up for anyone if players on the opposing teams are taking liberties. Mo does a great job of providing hits and energy but he shouldn’t have to be the main player doing that. Even if the Wings made it to the playoffs with their current roster..they would be obliterated in the first round when the other teams really start playing physical! I’m tired of seeing them bullied and pushed around and taken advantage of. And it seems like nobody is even thinking about this.🤦🏻♂️
Wow, im pretty disappointed in the fans here, who have NO experience in the nhl and love to monday quarterback. Hind sight is 20/20. Larkin is not, the problem. He willed the team to winning last season many times. Trading him wouldnt fix ANYTHING.
Steve has made some bad trades, but there isnt an endless pool of players to trade for.
I will put up with a few bad seasons, if it gives us another 10-15 yrs of greatness like we had.
Remember, we were the dead-wings for about 20 yrs before our incredible playoff run. Look how many teams have a season of getting to the 1st round, but are surrounded by decades of being barely worth watching.
This article if full of wrong assessments; sieder hasnt been the greatest this season. From the start, he has been giving about 80%, and has cost us more goals this season than he has in his career.
At the red carpet event this yr, mo is the ONLY player that didnt sign 1 autograph, he dissed an 8yr old who made a sign written in german and waited 3 hrs to see him (he was impossible to miss). Mo literally speed walked the red carpet- his play so far this season has been a mirror image of the way he treated ALL the fans at the event.
The whole team is to blame, and im sure it starts at the coach.
That article's analysis is way off base.
Giving this article this kind of face time is a mistake.
Larkin has progressively gotten more slack .
Im shocked at how uneducated most of these comments are.
The yzerplan is a failure , the entire second line should be replaced , not enough adding of younger players with up side , to many old players blocking young players , 4 of the 6 defenseman need to be younger , petry , chariot , holl and Gustavon all need to be replaced
It generally takes 3-5 years for drafted players to arrive in the NHL unless they are very high end talent. Then another couple seasons to become bona fide established players. Top end rookies generally score about 60 points in their first season. Sure there are exceptions but only few operate outside of this. If a team gets 2-3 nhl players in a draft it is considered good. With this understood, the pace to rebuild a roster with 10-12 drafted players could certainly take 8-11 years. None of us likes this timeline but without draft lottery luck, this is the reality. Perhaps it is time to reconsider the concept of building through the draft.
