[Henderson] The Seahawks can’t get into the playoffs, but their regular-season finale against the Rams won’t be completely meaningless. For one thing, Geno Smith will have $6M worth of contract escalators on the line. He has three escalators, worth $2M apiece, that are within reach.

  1. They have to choose between giving Geno one more chance to prove why he deserves a extension or see if Howell has any major ability

  2. Say what you want about Geno, but it would look terrible for the organization if they purposely sat him.

Hope he gets every penny (and especially the 10th win)

  3. I mean good for Geno. They should 100% give him the start. Not doing so is not a good look for team chemistry or potential free agents.

We are also the last team out of the playoffs. With a loss we could MAYBE move up a spot or two in the draft. If there was a variance of like 7 spots depending on the result then I get cheering for a loss. The variance is literally one or two spots depending on the strength of schedule math.

All these salty comments. Like, I don’t care about Geno’s money either but why wouldn’t you want your team to do well and beat the Rams when it has no impact on draft order?

  4. I hope Geno has his best game ever and the Hawks fucking stomp the Lambs. Demoralize them before the playoffs so they get knocked out in the first game.

  5. Geno really has nothing to prove by playing, and we sure dont want him screwing up his knee worse or snapping his Achilles and suddenly he can’t practice with the team in the offseason and next season is in jeopardy too.

We have roster decisions to make in the offseason. I’d rather see what some of the backups and younger guys do with the opportunity. They’ll probably be more motivated anyway than most of the starters in a meaningless game against a Rams team that won’t be going 100% either.

I’m curious what these escalators actually are. If they’re things the team thinks he’s likely to hit, just rework his contract and give him that money as a roster bonus or something. Teams do that shit all the time. If they’re things that would require a Herculean effort and considerable luck, well then Geno had 16 games to hit them. Those are the breaks. There’s really no reason for him to be playing. I’m sure he’s not the only player on the team with performance incentives in their contract.

  6. Depends on how Geno’s knee is holding up. Don’t really see the point in risking next season for some escalators. Then again, I’m sure Geno wants to play for that money.

  7. I am betting the over on running back receptions because of that 70% completion rate.

  8. Oh fuck you mean he didn’t get us into the playoffs but a millionaire is gonna get more money? Who the fuck cares

  9. Sit Geno and pay him his escalators as if he already achieved those goals. It protects your QB for the offseason and it’s a good look for the front office.
