  1. Honestly not sure what anyone really expected with Garrison starting and Roddy in the rotation

  2. I think we have enough evidence to state that vs Denver without JJ is not worth playing.

  3. Can’t be insanely upset considering the personnel we had against this very good nuggets team , but defo 2 things we need to find

    1. Our Center rotation ain’t it. But I think we all know this now
    2. I think we need to find a way to incorporate Dyson into a roster where he doesn’t need to shoot as much as tonight. It’s not great when he needs to take 16+ shots. If we could find a way where his sole focus is defense and he only needs to take 5,6,7 shots a game that would be ideal, but atm we don’t have that.

  4. Yeah I don’t think backup PG is nearly the issue backup PF is. I’m totally fine with Dyson Daniels leading the second unit but holy hell David Roddy is harmfully bad.

  5. We shot 45/100 and they shot 53/94 FG. Both teams with 21 FT attempts. We missed 7 they missed 0. We took more shots, had more rebounds, and had the same attempts at the line. There was some bad calls in there too but really just seemed like there was a lid on the basket in the 3rd quarter that got us too far behind. It didn’t seem like a huge volume of low quality shots. They just weren’t falling. I think it was a winnable game that just went sideways.

  6. Another mid team that ain’t going nowhere. Woohoo!!! Jordan couldn’t save this team of knuckleheads. Play some defense already. No wonder nobody watches.

  7. Didn’t even realise Trae had 30 tonight…ugly game.  Roddy and garrison having to be on the floor at the same time sums up the state/health of the roster right now

  8. Having Jalen miss both Denver games in particular is really rough. Jokic will eat you alive if you don’t have a 4 and 5 that can guard him and the rim respectively, and with Jalen out + our lack of PF depth he can just tear through us.

Thankfully we won’t have to see Jokic again this season, dude’s a beast (unless we make the finals)

  9. The Nuggets are the only team that can blow us out multiple games while Trae is playing well. Thank god they’re a Western conference team.

  10. 1st game I see in person: hawks lose 116-150
2nd game I see in person: nuggets set team record for # of points in 3 quarters

Damn you hawks, I’m renouncing my support for the next 4 hours

  11. David Roddy is not who i thought he was

No, like literally i thought he had dreads or something idk why. I guess i get our end of bench guys confused in my old decrepit age.

  12. You can’t let Joker get a double-double. Stop the double-teams and get a Center who can slow him down. You can’t stop him but you can slow him down and make him one-dimensional. Giving him 15 assists will get you beat every time.

  13. I figured it would be a loss tonight being that the game was in Denver. I figured the altitude would get to the Hawks, and it did in the third quarter. Denver has quite a home-court advantage for a reason.

Just want the Hawks to get home in solid shape at least.

  14. They did the jumbo tron bit where they name candies for 20 seconds and David Roddy set the high score with 43

  15. Does anyone know a previously similar situation with another player like Dyson? Like a guy who is capable of shooting 3s but not at a very high rate. And then they were able to develop a better shot? I can think of centers but tryna relate someone to Dyson so I can get that reassurance that him improving his shot is possible hahaha

  16. Straight up this team is thin in many places. Fully healthy hawks win. Just cant afford key pieces being out.

  17. Love Clint, and still think we should keep him because I don’t see a legit upgrade out there that we could realistically get, but damn if I’m not looking at KAT’s third straight game of 30 PTS & 10 PTS. Can you guys imagine if we had a center like that with Trae? It would be INSANE.

I love what Fields has done with our roster, that Murray trade is looking awesome, but we still really need depth. When we our fully healthy we’re scary, but that’s rare sadly. Other teams have so much better depth than us.

Hopefully Jalen is back Friday, next two games aren’t easy: Lakers at LA with Reaves back & LeBron finding his youth suddenly. Then Clippers who are playing good basketball and Kawhi is maybe back.

  18. Your Hawks lose to the Denver Nuggets 120-139.

Zaccharie Risacher: Ended the game with 13 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 block on 6/12 shooting including ⅙ from three. He started the game with a weird possession. Trae finds him on a cut, Zacch loses the ball, kicks it out to Trae in the corner. Trae gets closed out and passes it back to Zacch in the paint. Zacch loses it again but passes it out to Dyson for an open three he drains. With under three minutes he got into the paint and threw up a slightly out of control fading jumper that dropped in the hoop.

Early in the second quarter, ZR had a chase down block from behind on Jokic and was rewarded with a wide open three point attempt on the other end. His shot bricked. With around 8 minutes left in the third quarter, he had a tip in. With under 6 minutes left, he had a drive against Braun, got to the middle and with some nice footwork, freeing himself for a layup.

Summary: The three point shooting wasn’t there but he was awesome inside the arch and only missed one shot. The one shot he missed he grabbed his own miss and put it back up. He has some crafty shots down low as well. An interesting note about the rebounding is that all of his boards are offensive ones. He has a knack of knowing where to be. He was solid on defense as well. My one very minor nitpick is that during garbage time, with all the other important pieces out, he didn’t try and take over. Instead he continued to play like a role player despite being the best person on the court. Overall it was a solid game. Grade: B

DeAndre Hunter: He ended the game with 20 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals on 7/14 shooting including ⅗ from three. Hit two important buckets towards the end of the first quarter. One was a pull-up midrange jumper off an OO screen. The next was a catch and shoot three at the top of the key which was a Trae assist.

With around 6 minutes left in the second quarter, Dre splashes a step back three to tie the game 55-55. There was a possession with around 3 minutes left where Trae held on to the ball for too long and with 3 seconds left passed it to Dre to work with nothing. Dre still made a turnaround fadeaway midrange.

Summary: In general his offensive continues to be great. He took about 4-5 midrange shots today and he was fairly efficient making 3 of them. He wasn’t as good in the restricted area with only ⅓ shooting. He still got up a good amount of threes and made a great percentage of them. His defensive awareness was great tonight. He could see where a pass was going and intercept the ball. The only quibbles I had were some decision making moments. For example there was a transition opportunity with Zacch our ahead but Dre ends up passing it to Trae taking away the advantage. Overall Dre was good again. Grade: A

Trae Young: Ended tonight’s performance with 30 points, 9 assists, 4 rebounds and 2 steals and 4 turnovers on 8/17 shooting and 4/10 from three. He played only 30 minutes due to the blowout. With about 10 minutes left in the second quarter he had a dump off pass that threaded the needle to OO for a wide open dunk. For the final possession of the quarter, Trae drew two fouls on Christan Braun to put him at three fouls. The last was a three point foul but unfortunately Trae made 1 shot. He shot 10/12 on free throws the whole game.

With under 8 minutes in the third quarter, Trae fouled Christian Braun on an out of bounds play which led to him getting a technical foul and a three point swing. He made two three pointers at the end of the quarter then had a pass to Garrison Matthews at the other end of the court for a bucket.

Summary: Trae had another good game tonight. In general he was efficient but the offense was particularly rough in the first half with Trae going 3/11 fg and 2/7 from three. He still has 14 points and he got a lot of those from making 6/8 free throws. His passing was also decent from the 1st half with 6 assists and only 1 turnover. Trae turned up during the second quarter, scoring 16 points on ⅚ shooting and ⅔ from three. 12 of those points were scored in the third quarter due to a Herculean effort to try and put us back into the game as the Denver Nuggets pulled away. In general he bombed away from three, taking plenty of deeeep ones and pull up shots. The passing was solid as usual but there were a lot of bricked shots which resulted in a lower than average assist number. In all he had a pretty solid performance. (Grade: A-)

Vit Krecji: Ended tonight’s game with 14 points, 5 assists, 6 rebounds and 2 blocks in 28 minutes. I think this is probably Vit’s best game of the season! He went off in the 2nd quarter for 12 points on 4/8 shooting including 3/5 threes.

He stepped into a three point attempt for a bucket with 8 minutes left in the second quarter. With 7:40 left, he hit a three off a screen for a foul and made a 4 point play. With about 5 and half minutes he finds a cutting Dre for a wide open dunk. He hit his third three with a pump fake and side step with under 5 minutes left.

Summary: In general I’m happy to see Vit take the amount of shots he did which is usually a rare occurrence. His passing was pretty good just gonna note that he did get three of those assists in garbage time. He did provide help on boards. Again just gonna note the 3 of those were in the 4th quarter garbage time. He was competitive on defense as well. He looked good in general. (Grade: A+)

Clint Capela: Ended with 4 points, 7 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal in 20 minutes. He shot 2/4 fg and went 0/2 fta. He had 2 turnovers both were traveling violations. One was a bad possession in the third quarter where Dyson dove for the ball and got a steal which got to Vit, who passed it to Clint for an easy dunk. However, Clint ruined the whole highlight by traveling. At least he made up for it on the next possession by making a hook shot.

His rebounding was ok at best. He got all 7 in the first half. It was better in the second quarter when Jokic wasn’t on the floor as much. However in the 2nd half Clint provided absolutely nothing there. On defense he got cooked by Jokic. It’s not surprising this happened given the kind of player he is. It was a bad matchup from the start. Was not impressed. Grade: D-
