[Phillips] Paul Goldschmidt on mentoring a young player, like Ben Rice for example: “I’ll do whatever I can to help guys,” he said, noting that he had plenty of veterans help him as a younger player.

  1. For a guy who’s only likely to play for us for a year Goldy’s showing a good attitude. I’m excited for this season and seeing the Yankees field a good mix of vets and also young players that will form the new solid core of the team for a good 5 – 6 years.

  2. Losing Rizzo means losing some important veteran leadership in the clubhouse. Hopefully some others can fill that void. Nice quote from Goldy.

  3. This is the right attitude for sure, and sounds like he understands his place and role on the team. Clubhouse leadership is important, and folks like him make a difference – on the field and off.

  4. Can Gold do something judge, rizzo,  Stanton, etc couldn’t do?  He can help on defense, but the reason rice lost his job was losing the ability to hit.

  5. manifesting a 2017 first-half Matt Holliday type season for Goldschmidt minus the injury and ensuing terribleness. Same veteran presence that helped guys like Judge.

  6. What’s he going to say?

‘Nah, I’ve got a job to do. I’m no baby sitter. Pretty sure there’s a whole coaching staff available to help develop people’
