  1. I think the cubs are holding off on adding any one until they get clarity on Sasaki. I feel like the rest of MLB is as well
Also don’t waste your time on the cubs subreddit, its a boring hivemind of fandom

  2. Yesterday, I listened to Power Alley on SXM, and they did an interview with Matt Shaw, and they were projecting him as the Cubs opening day 3rd baseman. He was asked what his best position is, as his original position was shortstop, and he said that he worked hard this past year at 3rd base, and he feels that 3rd base is his best position. I feel really good about Matt being the opening day 3rd baseman.

  3. Castillo isn't a #2 any more. You would be be adding almost $75M ($100M with the vesting option) on a 32 year-old pitcher moving away from a pitcher's park and already in steady decline. He might be behind Taillon as the Cub's #4!

  4. You don’t trade your current and top 3B prospect without having your replacement in place and that’s what Matt Shaw represents. The Cubs should continue building their bench options, sign a back-end reliever like Kenley Jansen, and a top of the rotation SP like Max Scherzer. There could be a trade to explore with the Twins for Lopez, Duran, and Castro as an alternative which would save the Cubs lots of money but would empty the farm system. But, the Cubs are pretty loaded with expendable pieces and redundancies and should capitalize on their prospect capital now on guys like Wicks, Alcantara, Ballesteros, etc.
