There was a post about team hats and their popularity in other countries. I took this at a clothing store in Frankfurt, Germany. All Yankees/Dodgers due to city popularity and that team’s popularity in representing that city

Interesting that they don’t have LA in its original blue but they have NYY in it
I feel like Yankees and Dodgers are just as much of a fashion icon as they are popular baseball teams. New York Yankee caps and LAD caps you can find ANYWHERE–even in places where baseball isn’t even popular. Live and have traveled around parts of Asia–found them in China, Vietnam, Cambodia. Probably be easier to name countries where you can’t find these hats.
That same rack is here in Taiwan in an Eslite bookstore. Just those teams in many colors. I’ll see if I can get a photo tomorrow.
It’s a fashion statement not team support
Same in the Netherlands, all Yankees. You’ll find Dodgers and Red Sox every now and then.
This is an awful assortment of colors for the Dodgers and Yankees.
Same in the UK, with the odd bit of White Sox stuff which I think is cause of rappers or something?
The White Sox ones always make me giggle cause I wonder if they have any idea how bad they’ve been.
That’s a weird way of saying it’s 90% Yankees hats and they have a few dodgers as well.
90% don’t even know they are wearing a sports hat, they just think it’s a cool logo and everybody has one so they need one too
Why do they have more variations here than Lids does these days
I live in Sweden now and when I first moved here I was a dishie at an Irish pub. One of the first interactions I had was with a Swedish guy who had a Padres hat on. Being originally from SoCal, I razzed him a bit saying something along the lines of “come on man, how you gonna rep the 4th best team in the NL west?”. He looked at me completely tense and frozen and had no idea what I was talking about and took the hat off immediately. Even after explaining to him what I meant he was still embarrassed. Poor bastard. Now I barely see anything but Yankees and Dodger hats, which I now know better than to engage in convo with since it’s 99% purely fashion to wear the hats.
Same here in Japan. All Yankees and Dodgers. Maybe some Padres and Red Sox if the place is well stocked. Like some others said many people don’t know that the NY thingy is a logo for a baseball team
I’m in the UK and see Yankees and Dodgers caps all the time, but Raiders merch is also very common, including hoodies and stuff like that. It’s about style a lot more than sports really
man, German urinals are weird looking
Same in Thailand
Because the NY and LA logos have been a deep part of fashion around the globe for a couple decades now.
Most people only know the logos represent the cities of New York and LA and nothing else, for some it’s the only two US cities they know, but they all know it’s a popular thing to wear all over the world.
A large chuck of wearers don’t even know they’re baseball teams. This from someone who’s lived in two countries where nobody cares about baseball but you see NY and LA caps everywhere.
I was in Florence and had to buy a hat. They only had Yankees and Dodger. I think I saw a random Brewers & D-Backs hat, too
I was in Indonesia and there wasn’t a day where I didn’t see somebody in a Yankees hat.
This has probably changed because of Ohtani, but the first time I went to Japan the interlocking NY was everywhere. The Avon my friend worked in had a wall dedicated to Yankees merch.
Most people in Germany probably just see this as New York and Los Angeles hats as opposed to any specific team
My wife wears dodgers hats, knows nothing about baseball. Old men stop her ALL THE TIME to try talk shop about baseball.
I have always said one of the best ways to NOT look like an American when traveling in Europe is to wear a Yankees hat.
I’ve seen tons of them in Italy, France, England, etc. and very very few have been worn by Americans.
One of our Chinese students was convinced the logo just mean LA and nothing else lol
This is more about fashion and an American look than showing out for a particular team.
My wife is a Yankees fan and I’m a dodgers fan. We hsed to do a fair amount of international travel and we’d always play a game to see which hat we saw more.
Usually it was close to 1 dodgers hat for every 10 Yankees hats. That was 15+ years ago though so maybe it’s changed a bit.
Yankees hats not only represent the winningest team in America sports, they represent hip hop and the most culturally influential city in the world. It’s not all that surprising.
When will the Germans care for Arizona, many are asking this
New Era should do a Dodgers Yankees mashup hat.
Holy long-winded title
I was in Europe for a couple weeks last fall. I was taking a mental count as I was not expecting to see many MLB hats. Boston was the most prominent, by a lot. Of course saw a few NY and LA.

The global popularity of the Yankees’ hat is due to the global image of [New York City](https://www.nytimes.com/2023/03/29/world/americas/yankees-caps-brazil.html). In the article I linked, the writer asked Brazilians if they knew what the hat represented, they just shrugged.
