Zubac is fantastic at knowing how to use his body and grabbing boards, but let’s be honest, OO is simply a far more skilled basketball player and at this point it’s just sad watching him get dominated every night by 7+ footers. I cannot believe we took him with our 6th overall pick, and here we are about to pull a John Collins and refuse to trade him until his value has completely plummeted. Just a sad situation all around.

  1. I mean this is a size game. We have seen Trae get abused for years because of his size. And have you really been expecting to see more from him? I mean his peak is probably year 2 age 21 going up against Giannis and overpowering him and getting a block? That was three seasons ago. The part we should really be mad about is his three point shot never becoming anything. Fans saw those slow ass shots in practice that offseason after the bucks series and really thought he would turn into John Collins from three. Turns out that shooting doesn’t always turn around for players. Even if they are 21 years old and have Kyle Korver around him. Just because a player is young does not mean a player will undoubtedly unlock a part of his game in the future. Something to remember when you are talking about the new younger players on this team.

  2. Unfortunately Okongwu’s skillset doesn’t match his size and it makes it so much tougher to run him in lineups. You can understand the ideology of small ball lineups when they can get out in transition with either a slashing centre or a big man who can consistently hit shots from the outside but unfortunately OO doesn’t provide neither of these traits at a high enough level to provide enough value for his minutes. And that’s at the expense of being bullied by these traditional big men like Zubac. He’s probably a good guy and obviously is still an nba caliber player but I think for us atleast he’s reached his peak and just don’t think he provides enough impact with our roster. Essentially I think he can shine in a really specific lineup and we just don’t have that.

  3. I like OO, but I actually think Zubac is the more talented player out of the two of them & not just due to his size, though of course it’s helpful.

  4. OO has skills but lacks instinct. How many times does he lose his man in a basic box out.

  5. Zubac is a very good center and youre really selling him short here, but I agree with the height sentiment

  6. idk what you’ve been watching for the last 6 years if you think OO is more skilled than Zubac. Obviously his size is a big advantage, but he’s still more equipped to be a center than OO even if you take away his size. You also can’t play OO anywhere else since he can’t shoot for shit.

Unfortunate but I’ve been off the OO train for a while imo he should be offloaded asap

  7. Zubac is a bad example because he’s pretty skilled on his own, however it is true that Okongwu really struggles to contain 7 footers or players around that height. A better example than Zubac would be Drummond, who had 20 and 20 off the bench againts the Hawks last season , in a game where I think Okongwu was the starter because Capela was injured. I get that some of you guys still believe in his upside, but imo it is in the Hawks best interest to trade him before his value tanks

  8. Zubac might be the most underrated player in the entire NBA and this post just proves it.
