Slugger Brent Rooker and the Athletics are in agreement on a five-year, $60 million contract, sources tell ESPN. The deal includes a sixth-year vesting option at $22 million that can escalate. Another big-money deal for A’s as they spend. First on the news was @Ken_Rosenthal.

  1. Fisher is still spending the bare minimum. $12 Million a year for 5 years? Rooker is improving and getting better.

It’s a “big deal” in terms of the A’s historically but compared to the league. The roster is still getting payed the bare minimum

Had he waited for another 3 years I believe, he could have gotten an insane contract with another team in my opinion. I’m not an A’s fan anymore but I’ll still be rooting for these dudes and their careers

Fuck John Fisher and Fuck Rob Manfred

  2. FJF but happy for Rooker. Wish he got more. He’s got such a great personality on and off the field

  3. Wait…Rooker accepted the deal???

Don’t get me wrong…I’m glad he’s staying with the A’s, but he’s worth way more than that. I’ve seen less skilled/worse stats players get over $100 million +.

  4. Good for Rook!! But FJF. The guy could have easily made deals like this for the past decade, but chose not to. Now he’s trying to give the impression he cares, and that he’s out of horrible no good for nothing rundown Oakland he’s financially able to re-sign players. What a slap in the face.
