They got Harrington coming to , he has huge talent.
Baseball at this time of the year, for me is reawakening. As a Pirate fan my reason to get excited is the pitching staff. Bubba Chandler does bring some optimism for hope for team. It would seem he just needs to stay on track in February and he'll be going to Miami to start the campaign.
Barney Dreyfuss is the father of MLB in Pittsburgh. He had courage and daring in his intentions. He knew talent when he saw it. His player/manager Fred Clarke showed that same daring when he picked Babe Adams to start game 1 of the 1909 WS against Ty Cobb's Tigers. The results spoke for themselves.
Chandler isn't out of Clemson, he was drafted out of high school. He was committed to Clemson (for football).
The young pitching staff offers hope, but they still need to spend to get a few established power hitters.
Haven’t heard anything about Oviedo recently. Where does he fit in?
The competitive edge you talk about is, I believe, inherent in the character of Pittsburgh and Pittsburghers. It probably stems from the tough immigrants, steelworkers, coalminers, who had to fight so hard to survive in a new country and who had a chip on their shoulders about being perceived as less than others. I know I got a little piece of that. Doesn't appear that nutting and his management have it at all.
