Stuff will accelerate this month once Bregman and Arenado choose teams.
I’m already tired of this rumor
I hope not.
He’ll just be a glorified IKF without being able to play defense.
I don’t like this move. Arraez is a one tool player he gets on base but does nothing else. He doesn’t steal bases, have speed, or play great defense.
The only way he provides any value to this team is if he hits .350 but even then his OBP will probably be below .400 and he’ll play terrible defense so we just shouldn’t get him.
Enough of this glorified singles merchant
Why wouldn’t you pass on Gleyber but take Arraez makes no sense. I thought the whole reason they got rid of Gleyber was his bad defense and base running
Good. Keep it that way.
Could do worse for a 1-year rental. Could do a lot better, too.
I do enjoy the discourse on him, though, very entertaining stuff.
Id rather trade for cronenworth then put him in 2nd.
I’m starting to slightly come around on this idea, but I can’t really come up with anything in my head that I’d be willing to give up for him that the Padres would entertain. So this doesn’t surprise me.
Here we go. Rumors and more rumors. If we land him we’ll complain about his defense and rightfully so. Defense lost us a World Series. Why would we even bother with this.
Where would he play? I guess 2B is open but do we want to put a poor fielder there?
Things I like about this possible trade.
– he has amazing contact with low K rate
– it seems he is very well liked and can provide a good dynamic in the club house. Specially with young/Latin players (Yankees do not have any big Latin player in the Roster without Torres/Soto)
– Lefty and a true first in the lineup player that we do not have. Could be amazing in front of the Judge.
– while his defense is below avg (and way bellow last year). He had a thumb injury and he played hurt last year which could have affected his defense and maybe some of his pop (he had better SLG in 2023-2022 that allowed him to have better value than last year.
– Versatility at diff positions in the OF/IF while he is bad at all, in emergency situations he can play in other positions
Things I do not like:
– Even when healthy his defense is bad
– Slow. While in front of the Judge there is no need to steal bases. It is nice to have someone who can score on doubles or go to third in a single at the top of the lineup
– It does not fit prev moves to focus on players with good defense and speed from prev years.
– Jazz will be at 3B rather than 2B where he might be better at defense
I feel the value of Arráez is similar to what Gleyber can do in terms of WAR. But having high AVG/OBP is nice at the top of the lineup which we do not do and we keep Lefty/righty with Arráez/Judge, which we did not have with Gleyber.
If the trade happens I’ll be excited for the possibility of a 2023/2022 season. But won’t be sad if it does not happen. Although I might prefer Arráez than DJ/Cabrera combo
Please trade for him Seattle so the Yankees don’t fucking do this man lmao
You guys are all just nerds for not liking Arraez
It’s all right in front of him
You can’t sell me on run prevention and then move Jazz to third for Luis Arraez, Brian.
Replacing Gleyber with Arraez seems pointless
All these crazy options, At this rate we could of just keep Trey Sweeney
We have Andrew Velazquez, why would we need to trade for a worse infield?
The one thing bro will do is get on base in front of Judge. Don’t need him to steal. As a lead off hitter dude has a 400 obp. Maybe that’s all we need even though the rest of his tools are trash. He may be the best of a lot of bad options.
These comments are wild, depending what the Yanks have to give up… I would love to have him. 200 hits a year, .300+ hitter, stop with the Torres comparisons. Gleyber isn’t even half as good as Arraez, lol
I really don’t understand the hate for this guy. I agree his baserunning and fielding are not ideal, but a contact/low strikeout guy is exactly what this lineup needs. In past years pitchers would get into a groove against us by facing the same type of hitter 9 times in a row.
Also, people are forgetting singles > walks. Singles give the opportunity for runners to advance more than one base.
To be honest, this would be a very similar acquisition to us first getting DJ LeMahieu, minus DJ’s very good defense. That worked out extremely well for us for a few years, and people fell in love with DJ for his ability to hit with RISP, not his defense. Yes he’s dropped off drastically, but he’s gotten old. Luis Arraez is only 28 and would only be a 1 year commitment. People are acting like he’s 32 and about to sign an 8 year deal. Guys, we could do a lot worse
