[Purple Row] Are the Rockies at a financial disadvantage?

  1. They’re at an intellectual disadvantage for sure. Ownership and the front office are full of idiots.

  2. As a baseball fan, I hate that the argument of “any team could spend money to buy players” comes out of a whining about competitiveness when one or a couple teams buy up so many good players. There is a finite limit of talented players. Every team cannot just buy players, there aren’t enough talents. I just want the talent to be spread out because it makes watching baseball games of different teams way more interesting. It is bad for the sport, if you just care about watching baseball between any two random teams.

But sure it’s “good” for the sport if you want to appeal to the casual fan or bandwagoners

  3. Yes of course they are. MLB doesn’t have a hard salary cap and they don’t have full income sharing. The Dodgers TV contract is more than the Rockies entire gross income.

There is money and then there is being a smart, innovative and efficiently ran organization. That can make up for some financial disparities.

Levels of the MLB: 1) Money + Smart (Dodgers) 2) Money and dumb, 3) Less money + Smart, 4)Less money and dumb – – – this is where the Rockies are.
