Former Miami Marlins President David Samson: “In general. Players don’t care…There’s not one San Diego Padre saying, “man who’s going to be the control person.” Not once. Not a thought. Still havent met one player. .”Oh I signed with this team because of the owner. Nope. Doesn’t happen.”

Maybe back then but nowadays you have guys like Arte Moreno and John Fischer around who probably rub players the wrong way. As long as the Padres are still paying them and not taking away benefits or making pays play for locker room soda, I think they’ll be fine signing here.
People are signing with the A’s. We’re going to be fine.
This makes me feel better
I’ll take his word, but with a big grain
Like I think players don’t really care about the ownership as long as it doesn’t trickles its way to the clubhouse which seems pretty ugly if it does. Disputes among ownership isn’t new and that wasn’t the reason certain teams sucked like the Orioles or the Broncos in the past, they were just flat out shitty teams. The only reason this team would potentially be terrible is because whoever is communicating to Preller in this time is telling him to cut payroll and go cheap instead of trying to field a competitive team
The only reason I say it’s a big grain is because how many players outside of former Marlins players has he talked to? The Marlins never had ownership disputes, Loria and now Bruce Sherman are just cheap as hell

Manny Machado & Xander
Why is anyone listening to David fucking Samson?? He’s as corrupt as they come. He was Jeff Loria’s stooge
Didn’t watch the video, but it has been reported that Ohtani has a clause in his contract that allows him to opt out of his contract if Mark Walter is not control person or Andrew Friedman is not president of baseball operations. So at least one person in the MLB cares who runs the organization.
They don’t care about who the control person is, but I can sure as hell guarantee they aren’t happy about a lengthy ownership battle that puts their future in jeopardy.
I’ll expect to get a lot of downvotes for this but I can’t see how this doesn’t diminish our chances at signing Sasaki, I might go so far as to say it’s the nail in the coffin. Hope I’m proved wrong!
All these people saying that the Padres are going to be affected and it’s gonna ruin their season…c’mon!
It might now effect things immediately but a dirty lawsuit and possible change of ownership could either be great or it could lead to an owner that just looks at the bottom line for profits and doesn’t really care about the team. It’ll be business as usual for next season but 5-10 years down the line, no one knows if the people in charge will give a fuck about the team.
Also Fuck David Samson. That guy is the culprit for the sale and relocation of the Expos.
Merrill literally liked a “I stand with Sheel post” new school players do care.
Didn’t Soto leave because Peter Seidler died? He knew that the Padres trust were unserious about continuing going all in and didn’t want to continue paying him.
I disagree with the premise of this post. Not only did we wear a heart with “PS” in brown and gold, but when getting to 2nd base made the heat shape with their hands out of literal love, respect, appreciation for Pete.
Moreover, the LAD are slinging mud about this so we look bad and they continue to sign all the FAs they want.
A successful team is almost always greater than the sum of its parts. All players have physical gifts (some more than others, obviously), but a coach can make all the difference in how players come together and play as a team, right? And emotional connections between players on a team can raise the quality of play of all of them. So why wouldn’t a connection between players and ownership have a positive or negative impact on the production of a team?
Whether the spirit of Peter drives another year of success or this internecine squabble tanks the organization going forward, last year, the team and fans connected, and together we all wanted to bring Peter’s dream – all our dream – to the finish line. We fell short, but to dismiss the impact of the positive emotions that flowed from the bond with ownership last season, is to deny reality. Fuck this guy.
Like I’m going to listen to what a first boot on Survivor has to say
My concern is not “free agents won’t want to sign with us because of ownership drama.”
My concern is “the budget will be unnecessarily constructed because of ownership drama.”
David Samson, the guy that was behind the fleecing of Florida taxpayers? In this case he is wrong. Players in Merrill and Machado have come out in support of Sheel Seidler.
Ask Manny and Yu if they cared about Peter Seidler, David Samson
“Not one player”
Jackson Merrill liked an “we stand with Sheel” post on IG
Didn’t Soto not resign with the Nationals because of ownership shake up issues?
