Interesting to hear him say they haven’t even made serious offers to free agents. If that’s actually the case they are most definitely trying to stay under the luxury tax
Luxury tax is the Braves nemesis this season.
I just listened to the whole thing. It sounds like they like our current win projection if we have to rock with what we’ve got after a Left Field competition in Spring Training, but that they are at least actively engaging in talks to get better.
No limit on spending for “the right guy”.
He also mentioned that several teams are holding off on trading players, that are contingent on them being able to acquire other guys. I think I’ve seen that in a few articles where teams are open to moving big name guys through trade, if they can land a big target that requires salary drop.
I take it as a positive outlook. He’s right, getting to the playoffs is only part of the game. I’d much rather not blow the cash load early, deal with mass injuries like last year, and then be less willing to spend when we slide into the playoffs.
Really hoping we see Minter get a deal soon. All around great guy, and huge for team culture. Not many players would hang around the battery and chill with fans like he does.
So how was Max Fried not one of those free agents that was worth pulling the trigger on? I just don’t understand it. How do you let two guys that helped you win a WS walk after being here when we were winning 60 games a season and then leading you to the WS. What incentive does anybody have to want to stay when they know they will be let go for younger cheaper options.
Im not THAT old and I don’t know acronyms anymore
* He verbatim said he didn’t want to force signings or trades, and wanted to “believe” in them like a marriage.
* He said “Yup” enthusiastically when asked if he had money
* He said there are some guys they wanted to get but had to trade for by providing other position players
* He said he lives close to the Blue Ridge Grill and goes there a lot
What I heard was:
“I am at the Blue Ridge Grill on my 5th Manhattan trying to convince the Angels to send Mike Trout for Murphy, Kelenic, Winnas, Elder, A year supply of Chick-fil-A biscuits, 10mil in cash and a draft pick.”
Anyone else hear that?
Anything on Acuña? Preferably with respect to an extension??
He also said Strider’s UCL was intact when he went down. It was bone spurs and they cleaned those out and put a brace in. He did not have TJS
Is there any new information in this interview? I see people talking about it like it’s some grand exposition. I don’t care about anthopoulos talking about making moves, I want to see some moves, if none of this comes to fruition it’s just blowing smoke.
