5. Frankly, I'm kind of "meh" on Alonso coming back. His production last year was barely acceptable. If it gets any worse, and let's be honest, it's more likely to get worse than better, then he's a liability.

8. I have been a fan from the beginning (1962!) and follow everything. That Pete's agent made the offer is telling – I'm glad Alonso will return and yes, the team needs a full-time DH. For all the nonsense about Alonso's age, he is far from over the hill. What Pete lacks is the cold killer instinct that is needed to get through a tough season. Pete gets down on himself too often. He came through in big situations in the playoffs though, which is the real test of a hitter, and I think he will be his normal self this year (40+ HRs, 110+ RBI's) with this lineup. A proper DH will further improve an already solid row of hitters. After Pete signs, improve that bullpen. LGM!

12. I don't agree with being furious about getting Winker back to be the DH, he's got a great eye to work AB's and hits the ball very hard, and he was very clutch in the post season. Unless they're going to splurge for a DH which at this point, I don't see the Mets doing, Winker would be a fine choice.

15. Pete dropped his price because he finally realized he has zero leverage. No other team needs or wants him. How many players had 2 down years in a row and then had a resurgence AFTER they got paid? None. Stearns should offer 2 years with opt outs and not negotiate with himself like the Mets foolishly did with Wright years ago.

17. 236 HR, 586 RBI and almost 100 runs scored since he’s been a MET! He has improved his game and pick rate at 1st, clutch HR’s is many circumstances in the last five years, loves the team and the fans love him. Someone needs to explain to me why we have not offered him something more than we have. Should have been 5 x 25 with his last year most likely being a DH. Soto will be 31 then and I would hope we don’t have him as a DH for 10 of his 15 years do we? Glad we are bringing him back because Soto would be pissed.

28. This Alonzo news shows that the Mets NEVER had a offer on-the-table. Now, Scott Boras is trying to play good-guy. Bottom line: there is no organization that has made an offer for Pete to date. No team wants to play the Alonzo game with Boras. Alonzo made a huge mistake getting Boras as his agent.
