Kyle Tucker, Jarren Duran, Michael King, and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. all faced arbitration in 2025, with notable outcomes. Kyle Tucker, playing for the Cubs, couldn’t reach an agreement and exchanged figures, requesting $17.5 million while the team offered $15 million. Jarren Duran of the Red Sox also didn’t settle, with a $500,000 gap between his $4 million request and the team’s $3.5 million offer. Michael King, now with the Padres, similarly didn’t agree, filing for $8.8 million against the team’s $7.325 million. In contrast, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. avoided arbitration with the Blue Jays, settling on a $28.5 million contract. Regarding free agency moves, Andrew Kittredge is going to Baltimore for $10M, and Marlins pitcher Braxton Garrett will miss all of 2025 šŸ“

  1. Orioles get a C+ signing unc pitchers. Haven’t really spent a bunch of money, or at least below expectations with new ownership. Oneil is a good signing for sure. Theyre prospect hoarding rather than dealing some of their top prospects to get a garrett crochet. Haven’t extended any of their young core players like they should extend gunnar this offseason after the two first full seasons of his career being good and then phenomenal. Cant go B- cause they just haven’t done enough to compete with the yank imo. Also they lost theyre ace n best power hit by a landslide.

  2. These guy don’t realize how the real world works. They think they should get paid millions to play a game. If a cop was extremely talented on catching bad guy he would not get paid millions even though he would actually deserve it over a guy playing a little boys game. I am a fan but don’t think anyone should get paid the kind of money these guys get paid to play a game.

  3. As a Cubs fan I am livid over the Kyle Tucker thing, especially since they signed Colin Rea for $5 Million earlier today now giving them 25 pitchers on the 40 man roster. They could have taken that money and handed it over to Tucker and said "We want you to be the face of our franchise. " and use that as a way to try to eventually extend him to a long term deal. Jed Hoyer makes me so angry

  4. As a Padres fan the new ownership is doing the EXACT OPPOSITE of ā€œhonoring Peter’s legacy.ā€ This wouldn’t have happened in Peter’s or Sheel’s supervision. HOWEVER, I can see the hesitation in regard to King. This past season was his first season as a fully fledged starter and maybe they’re hesitant on being able to replicate this season again. He isn’t getting any younger either. You’re paying 1.5 million more to an essentially 30 year old reliever turned starter after 1 season. Again, I don’t agree with the penny pinching but looking at it from that angle, I see the hesitancy.

  5. Ian Happ was the Cubs’ last big arb case before signing a big extension and he basically said that this is business as usual and that most players don’t really mind it. My guess is that agents take care of this kind of stuff with fairly minimal involvement by the player. Plus there’s still time to settle anyways, so, even as a pessimistic Cubs fan, I think this is a bad sign for a future extension, but nothing close to disrespect or significantly damaging relations or anything.

  6. I have been saying for years now that the players are over paid(it's just a game!) Sorry not Sorry, but if the players don't get the money then the owners will and nobody goes to a game hoping that the owner is there lol.

  7. To be fair to the cubs they’ve haven’t had Tucker for even a full month yet so it’s harder for them to see or know what he’s worth compared to the Astros who had him since they drafted him

  8. Tell me why I feel Tucker is worth 25m a year. That’s just coming from a tigers fan stuck with a Javier Baez contract. Even 17.5m seems cheep in terms of what other players are getting. That should have been no questions asked

  9. I clicked on this video to defend my Cubbies but if they actually do take him to arbitration they’re just shooting themselves in the foot. Like you said we saw how that turned out with Corbin Burnes and the Brewers. We’re better than that (or at least we should be, confusing-ahh franchise)

  10. Red Sox management making the same mistakes with Duran, that the jays management made with vladdy. The Sox can look at the jays where that leads for certainty of getting an extension on a superstar

  11. Disagree totally at the end of the day this is a business, if you just give players what they want then you open up for everybody get what they want. I’m for the players but Billionaires don’t become billionaires by just giving away money. It’s not personal it’s business.

  12. If the Cubs were smart, they would have paid Tucker what he wants for this season instead of taking him to arbitration. But, I guess they're not.
